Okay tuning 292. Have older 4v intake so no vacuum port to do a vac test while tuning mixture on old Holley carb. I get popping from headers at idle. Not under load. Timing issue or what? Just replaced gaskets and replaced a bent rocket arm. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hmm Okay will check pushrods. As I was writing this I thought about vac leaks from header flanges or possibly small leak in headers somewhere? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Just for the vac hook up for dizzy. I've got a holly but don't have a vac port where it should be Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
why not put a T valve in that Port & use it for your Vacumn! Just my 3.5 cents or when the Cows come Home!
if you don't want to do that Unplug the Vac Plug going to the Dist. and check the Vac as you want & then plug it back where it belongs! Just my 3.5 cents or when the Cows come Home!
If you have an exhaust leak it pops when you are backing off, not while idling. Something else to check is for a wobbly shaft in the distributer or sticking points. Probably not the problem but I would not overlook it. Loose shaft may overcome itself by centrifugal force and sticking points maybe by added revs. Just athought.
Okay running better, it was a combination of ildle mixture and incorrect valve lash settings. Wanna thank you guys for the help Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Well after more tuning issues I found some major vac leaks at the 5,6,7 manifold ports. I missed them before. But will change out the gaskets today. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Keep after it, you'll make it work. I got call from a GM dealer in Illinois back in the '70s once. They had a Corvair that they just could not get sorted out and asked if I would come give it a look see. I spent a week there chasing little problems. Finally after everything it ran like a top. It didn't have one single problem just a whole lot of little ones. None of them major and none of them enough to make it not run by themselves.
Porknbeaner Yeah it's getting there changing out the manifold gasket was huge. Thx Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
