A small group of us have started getting together one night a week to build a few NW Vintage dragsters basically HAGR's with a little looser rules. We have been pooring over Marty Strodes builds and basically monkey see monkey do for the first one, making alterations for the components we chose.

After some mockup with a powerglide and a 250 6, we have our basic design in cad.

We are using T front suspension and a pair of modified Harley 19" front spoke wheels for the front end.

Here is my old man (Steve) getting the T axle down to race weight.

Ah Satler had a small issue so we moved it to thursday night this week.

Been hard to work with that stack of tube sitting there. I'll keep you updated.

Started it out tonight with some pork chops on the bbq...delish

Then it was on to cutting tube, here is the front crossmember out of 3" .125" wall erw. i cut some stands to hold it in position on the chassis table.

Then we got to messing with the tubing bender. somehow the angle gauge loosened up and we overbent the first bend, thats it laying flat on the table. as I'm only cool enough to draw 2D cad we had to sort of sneek up on the first bend as it had to rise and taper towards the center of the chassis. after about 4 tries we found 9.5 degrees to be the sweet spot. From there it was just measure back from the bend as per the cad drawing and bend it up at 90 degrees.

The first tube took probably 1.5 hrs, the second tube took about .5 hr. But now have all of these measurements recorded for the next one.

So that was me, Satler and Randy's night, meanwhile in the next room my old man (Steve) was cooking up some front rolling stock. he took a matching pair of 19" Harley wheels and machined some bearing adapters that bolt in place of the brake rotors that use the Model T bearings and seals as well as space everything out for the Model T spindles.
    Came out freeking rad!

We are in Lewiston Idaho, there is an 1/8 mike track in Walla Walla Washington, and a 1/4 mile in Spokane. I'm hoping they will just let us bracket race with them and then be able to run with the other folks in the NW vintage dragster class whenever they get together.

Marty may be able to elaborate on the class a little more.

Our plan is to build some jigs off this first one so we can build one for everybody in atleast our group and hopefully spark some grudge matches at our local tracks.

Well I guess you can call that northwest. Ha ha just kidding. I'm in British Columbia. I know the track in Spokane, went to my first drag race when I was 1 there! (Okay so I don't remember but I've seen the pics as proof) ha ha we are from Osoyoos originally which is a little town on the border so my dad and uncle used to go down to Spokane to buy car parts and race there. I have a bunch of old racing tshirts from there when it was an ahra track. Subscribed to your build! Have fun

Looks like you are doing some cool stuff up there.
Are you doing anything like CITA from the 50's ?

Guess I'll have to plead ignorant on that one, what is CITA?

Having the rails come back square to the centerline and then kick up at 90 degrees made it easy to setup in the mill to notch for the front crossmember. the mill is level in both axis so all i had to do was level the side rail and the kickup to get the notch correct on the compound angle portion of the rail. 20161031_074201.jpg

You`ll find the nw inliners an excellent group. Raced with them this last summer at Woodburn and found them to be very easy to get along with. The rules seem to be flexible as my car is not legal with its trans break etc. There were 16 cars at that event running a bracket format and it was a lot of fun even with my 14 hour drive each way

Rob, Looks like you are off to a great start. Getting some friends together to build a standard chassis for the group, is a formula for success. This is what some of the Oregon cars look like. IMG_0480.JPG IMG_0482.JPG

That looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. A little over two hours from my place to Walla Walla so maybe I can make it down to watch.

    Hey Rotten !
C.I.T.A Central Idaho Timing Assoc late 50's
I have a club plaque from" Poor Boys Car Club " CITA
I was at a show in Grangeville Id and saw the same plaque on a car and when I asked about it I got
surrounded by gray beards wanting to know where I got it and was it for sale .
I was told it was a northern Idaho drag racing club in the 50's from the Grangeville area.

I am looking forward to Woodburn, we have a lot of family in the Wilsonville/West Linn area so we make it there a couple of times a year. The track has a really cool vibe to it.
Thanks Marty, our basic chassis is pretty much a copy of what you built, looks simple and strong. Why reinvent the
wheel when your rolls so good. We are hoping to get the beltline hoop bent up tonight.
