Hot Rods 848 head

I need some words of wisdom! I have a chance to buy an 848 head from 1962. I want to mate it to a 54 235 block. Is there any machine work that needs to be done for it to be compatible or is it a nice easy swap?

54 should bolt straight on, it's the earlier 235 that is different. As long as your side cover bolts to the block and not the head, you should be good to go.

 

might need an adapter bushing to make the temp gauge fit...or maybe not...depends what head you have on there now. The 1957 Chevy parts book shows the 848 head as the replacement for the original head on a 54,

 

There were two 53 235's. The stick shift was a dip and hope style like the 216 and the power glide was a full pressure. 54 all were full pressure. Not sure on the swapping between the two.

 

Alright the last 848 deal fell through but I tracked down another one, this time it's out of a 1960 235 and is with out the rocker arm assembly. I've read that the later model 848 changed the oiling configuration to the rockers. Is there something I can do to the rocker assembly I already have to make it work?

I just picked one up but it has no rocker assembly. And Idk if I can use the one off my old head

Ahhh, I think you should be able to use your rockers
