    thanks guys.. i just play in my garage after work. projects for me only, no customers or people saying what i have to do, keeps it fun that way.

    @toreadorxlt! you're too modest. I'm subscribed to your build threads and you do excellent work. I've been considering a home-built airstream clone, too. Do you have that project documented & posted on the net somewhere?

    I know its OT, but I took some time to finish up our garden arbor with a pair of self-closing gates. Now back to gearhead stuff.

  11. Mittler Bros. power hammer . Copy of Yoder . I got the double head so I can leave the shrinking dies on one side and only need to change the dies on the other . Blue

    built every ounce of my machines except the air motors which are CP clones. I built a pullmax style machine, a wheel, and a planisher... building another planisher now. But in reality you don't need all the fancy stuff it just makes the job quicker.

    Curious why ones VFD driven and ones Belt Slip? which do you prefer.

  14. The VFD is new forMB and they made me a deal on it . I haven't had it long enough to make a choice yet although I can slow it down to a speed I like at full pedal and leave it floored and work a big panel and not have to worry about speed control . I played with a door panel with it last night and the response was nice speeding up in center . Very predictable. I guess it's probably what you get use to . Time will tell and I'll let you know .

    ? For you. I got some blank dies I want to insert some home made blanks for bead lines . What width would you use ? Blue

    I wouldn't bead with that power hammer.. it has an overhit... You need a reciprocating machine to bead. If you're talking pullmax style beading, I use 1/2" for my profiles, and just machined some universal die holders for 1/2" stock

  16. What's the purpose of the second movable arm on your planishing hammer? I'd like to build one but im still trying to come up with the design i like. Thanks.

    Here's my Rams Head, I didn't think I'd need to get very deep in a panel. The arms are 1 5/8ths DOM with .375 wall. Very stout. The pics are from when I first made it and the hose from the regulator/oil supply to the head was temporary. DSC00368.JPG DSC00367.JPG

    Chris there's quite a few situations, especially with u shaped Parts where the lower arm just won't work. Here was one.

    2016 Maryland Tommasini Metalshaping Class

    Sorry for the lack of posts on the projects, we've been cleaning the shop for the 2016 MD Tommasini Metalshaping Class. Here is a new sand bag we made up for the class, made from a full cow hide, it measures 40" x 24" x 4" high. We had some loose leather left over, so the top was wrapped to provide additional protection from any sharp metal... This uses just over four 5 gallon buckets of saved blast media to fill the bag, so we don't need any holes letting all that pour out on the floor!

    Some of the projects include duplicating these repro BMW saddlebags in aluminum, and this Mopar hood in aluminum......

    The final two days of the Maryland Tommasini Metalshaping Class. We had two stumps that we gave to students to take home, here is the final version carved....






    I had some requests to show the mammoth sand bag with the loose cover removed... It saw quite a bit of use and came in handy!

    The crease or "swage" at the top center of the hood was difficult to locate through the paper pattern.

    So the upper and lower "crease" was highlighted by using fineline tape alongside. Then a pencil was used on the outside of the paper pattern, which now showed the location. Better shown here:





    The halves still need to be welded together using O/A.


    Two of the ball glove pounding pads were put into service for metalshaping, one using shot, the other using sand..
