Sunday, Oct 10th, a bunch of Central Indiana rudders got together and made a run from Indy to Brownburgh, IN to meet up with a few more guys and girls at JOKERR'S shop,( this is his car, that's "Carbon Guy's" "T" on the left and Bill's 37 Coupe on the right). We are headed off to western Indiana to attend the Jungle Park Reunion. (I'll explain more Jungle park in a bit.) I was there in my van, so Bill graciously invited me to rid along with him in his 37. That;s what is so cool about this hobby.. Joe Kerr drives that bitching Nailhead powered coup everywhere, as does Craig in his "T". We headed off to a town called Jamestown, a few miles west to "The Greeks" hotrod shop to meet up with the rest of the group driving out. As you can see, it was a great day. We then continued West, using the back roads to Jungle park Speedway, whicjh is next door to the Turkey Run State park. This is such a kool place, dripping with nostalgia. This is the entrance. We were able to park and display our cars together.. great bunch of cars showed up.. Once in the park, I started my tour around the vintage race cars thate were parked on the old banking of the track. Before I post race car pics, here's a bit of information on the Speedway. See the link below.. http://historicindiana.weebly.com/jungle-park-speedway.html OK, now some race car photos.. This is called "The Ghost of Jungle park"... They are parked on the banking of the original track, and the dirt portion was the lower track.
More.... We actually got to take a lap of the track...in our hotrods, then they fired up the race cars and drove them around too. heres a few of the m running... Well, let me tell you, it was a great day.. Good friends, just the best ride out there (thanks bill) and good old race cars, what a event... TIEROD.... PS: Pictures copywrited... All rights reserved. A couple of old timers who drove sprinters I crewed had raced at Jungle Park and used to tell some hair raising stories about the place. I think the idea of combining a rod run with a nostalgia race car event is too neat for words. Thanks for posting. Tie rod - Do you happen to know if the "Greek's '' hot rod shop might happen to be Lee Osborne's old place?
Man that's a great collection of cars. I'd really like to attend one of these events some time... is there anything left of the actual track? Gary
gnichols: The lower part of the banking is still there, and some asphalt left, where they converted it. The Race cars are parked of the track, but its over grown with grass. The area to the left of the path is the track, the trees were there in the race days, off the track, wack-o into a tree or the Creek... The path is part of the track too..
Here's a picture from FB page of Indiana Racing Memorial Association - IRMA "From T Ivan Jerome: In honor of the Jungle Park Reunion this past weekend, here is a pic of Gene Alldredge of Princeton, IN piloting Jimmy Wilburn "Wilburn's Jewel" #39 at Jungle Park. Photo courtesy of the Alldredge family. A great looking sprint car." Here's some that "Carbon Guy" Craig, found:
Great Pics! That is an awesome place, love the old race cars. Great Hot Rods too. I'd love to attend next year, if I can.
