I'm not sure what style I wanna do yet..... cruiser with white walls or the street truck look..... whats yalls opinion???
Get the mechanicals completed where it's driveable then decide what style you want cuz that's mostly cosmetic stuff. Have you done much to it lately?
Very cool truck! Sometimes it's hard to stay motivated but it looks like you definitely have what it takes Emily! White walls always look cool, especially with killer paint.
Hey guys! And gals! I know I haven't been posting a lot lately but I've been busy! Well! Updates! I have worked on my fenders getting them prettied up to where when my motor is done I can fix what I need to and be just a step further in the right direction!! I got my crank back a week ago and next I'm saving up to have my motor bored (40 over) and working on getting the rebuild kit! Now the question is... How big of a cam can I go without a stahl? (Or is it stall? ) I want a 282 becuase I love the sound they give the 350 but I've been told I can only go 270.. And which brand would be best for the beautiful loping sound I'm looking for? And front clip.. I have a 70s style nova front clip and I've been told I need to swap it out or z the frame (which will put me behind) and I want to airbag it so I can sit it low at shows but raise it uP to drive it! Thank you all for hanging with me and helping me!
I would call at least half a dozen cam grinders and ask there recommendations. After you talk to them you should be able to tell witch company you want to go with. The cam will be the hart of the engine so do choose wisely. You have the best opportunity now to build the best engine for your needs and wants. And you need to know what other things you want to go with it like intake,carb,heads,exhaust and ignition system.
IMHO, as far as the cam goes, as saltflats said, there's a lot that goes into the camshaft choice and the other components the advice to talk to lots of cam makers to figure out what's right for you is a great suggestion. Lumpy idles sound great but they also require higher compression, for instance. And I'd guess you don't want a motor that's not very drivable on the street, so take your time making your choice. Good thing is, if the cam is too much or too little for what you're looking for, worst case scenario you could take the weekend and swap it out for a different one. Keep us posted, I love this stuff.
I like an old truck wearing its work clothes. My '57, the General, is not a Chebby but a Jimmy and I receive more compliments concerning it than I do my beautifully painted street rods. It has a lump-ported stove bolt six with a Holly 370 4-barrel. Goes like a bat out of hell.
They all sound sweet to me. Like others have said, make sure the heads, intake, cam, carb, ignition, headers, and torque converter all compliment each other. A sweet lumpy cam and a tight, factory-style torque converter won't play nice with each other. You'll have to go less lumpy or have a higher stall on the converter for it to work, but it will still be fun. Good to see progress, keep it up!
