LB If they run VSCCA they have to be "original race cars" with a logbook and history. That's what some friends of mine that belong to that group tells me. The vintage race was just at Lime Rock over the Labor Day weekend. I don't know if I really answered your question. They are awesome cars in any case.

While doing a post on Dyno Don in the SS FX thread this was in there

Jim Thornton, driver of the feared Ramchargers Dodge team, said, "When we raced Nicholson, we knew we had to be ready. He and his mechanic, Earl Wade, were very tough."

Is that Earl Wade the one in here with the Vette Stocker?

Loudbang, You betcha. He was one of the best tuners out there. Wish there was a definitive history of him, I bet it would be impressive.

A corvette from the Dover dragstrip nostalgia drags this weekend. Over 300 cars in competition and 200 in show, what a event!

Jim yes I am and made it to the finals sunday and quarter finals sat, lot of stick shift cars last weekend and a few from Canada, I broke out ran a 9.48 on a 9.60 dial in, light was .060, my competitor is tough, he had a .018 light and ran an 11.03 on a 11.03 dial in.
Baron thanks for the compliment, really enjoying this stick shift racing, some really tough racers that's for sure.

Pretty sure this is Lincoln's Auto Wrecking Aurora Avenue/Highway 99 just north of Seattle. This was their holding yard, stood at that fence drooling lots of times when prowling Old 99 with my buddies. The yard proper had Vettes, tri five Chevy's, and muscle car stuff. All gone now.

Johnny that is the place that I was thinking of but I could not remember the name. I wonder how many of those cars were saved.

  25. If it's the one I'm thinking of it was on Aurora Ave North in Seattle.
I was there years ago, impressive even for the time.
I can't remember the name though.

Back in the sixties/early seventies, this Corvette was a regular runner at New England Dragway. At that time it was Pontiac powered. John is supposed to dig out a picture for me from it racing days. I'll keep bugging him to do so.
(this is a prime example as to what happened to so many of the Corvette race cars over the years.....) 2016-08-02 15.48.01.jpg

Gordon Matney’s nine-second 427-cid Chevy-powered A/Modified Sports entry was the quickest car in the field, and he came from behind in all four rounds of competition to win the Street crown at the 67 nationals final. His final-round opponent was Jan Riedel’s six-cylinder-equipped E/MP entry, and Matney ran him down, 9.57 to 11.06.

    see email VETTE.jpg

    another from the finals

Doorslammer veteran Dave Strickler ran his injected Corvette Funny Car in the B/XS category and came away with a class victory.

Loudbang we all appreciate your efforts on posting and with all of your posts you put us to shame at times. Just to set the record straight though, the Matney car posted above did not win the 67 Nationals but did beat Jan Reidels C/SR for street eliminator at the 1967 World Finals in Tulsa, which took place after the Nationals at Indy. This would be the last NHRA event for the car most likely as a AM/SP entry as the class was done away with at the end of 67. Not sure of any races in 68 with the car as it may have to run altered.

The winning car at the 67 Nationals was the Ellis/Kanners entry. Not sure of all of the history of the car but I believe the bodywork was an Astra fiberglass piece (not 100% sure and my notes seem to be MIA). The chassis may have been a Logghe piece as Neil Ellis ran some Logghe chassis with his altered cars around this era I believe. I was told the car may have had a Corvette chassis underneath but now I have a tendency to discount that assertion. The engine at Indy was the 427 out of the Midwest Vette. Ron Reader owner of Midwest. Midwest DAve K-67.jpg Midwest-DK-2.jpg told me that when they had some issues with the 57 Vette that they sponsored, they pulled the engine and put it in the Ellis entry (and I have seen it referred to as the Ellis/Kanners entry). They ran with Midwest sponsorship for the event. If you look closely you can see Midwest autoparts on the nose-they put Midwest in large letters on the side for Indy. You can see the car in action in Larry Davis Gasser Wars on p179 in the street eliminator finals at the 67 Nats. Dave Kanners did the driving and won class (AM/SP) and went on to win it all in street eliminator.

Good to see the info on the Matney entry as well Loudbang.

Jim, the rear wheels on the back of the red car appear to be Toranado. Anyone know for sure?
