Technical '67 283 block questions?

    Getting ready to send a '67 283 to the machine shop. These older blocks apparently have some plugs that the newer ones don't. How to remove these so we can get everything clean, I assume they are in the oil galleys? Thanks-

    Looks like you would have to drill and tap them then use a bolt and slide hammer.
     
  3. I have a newer 400 with those plugs. Let the machine shop deal with it.

    but make sure that their solution isn't gonna leak, or you'll be pulling the head off! btdt

    ...If they will...also make sure you have a GOOD auto supply with a complete line of freeze plugs, (sizes from 7/16" up) You may have to plug them again yourself.
    Ask me how I know...:eek: 'Cover thy bottom'.

    I know it isn't preferable, but would it be horrible if we left them in place??

    That's what I'd be inclined to do. Just make sure you spend some time cleaning the holes that they are plugging....which is "fun"

    You should be able to tap the hole with a 1/4 pipe tap after you remove them and screw in socket head pipe plugs.
