yard sale find, thought it was neat and because it was cheap (as well as myself), I brought it home. Anyone know the history behind this? I know Trippe made lights for a lot of different applications. Was this a Western Auto accessory.
CCCA & AACA stuff. The bigger & more expensive the car, the larger the Trippes Don't recall seeing use in our hobby Does yours have the leveling bubble ?.
There a few varieties; The largest ones, all chromed, with "spirit levels" in the top piece. Those were Trippe Seniors, then smaller, all chromed Juniors, then one that had the black body, and someone said those were for "commercial" (trucks?)
You could put it on a hot rod. From another thread on here I understand all the "cool guys" only run one accessory light!
Yes, an aftermarket add-on that comes in many flavors. Senior, junior, with and without levels, the "tea cup" style (like you have, tapered back) and "soup bowl" style (flatter on the back). The soup bowl seniors are popular on large late 30s to prewar 40s cars. Some are worth a good sum of dough, some are not. I think the soup bowl versions are mid range in value, the pointed tea cup senior with levels are the top value versions. Backets are usually black wrinkle finish, they take their own style of mounting nut and require their own wrench to install/adjust/remove. I'm pretty sure I'll see dozens next week at Hershey.
Always liked these things, want to try one those "million" candlepower bulbs in it. Haha. "Let there be light"!.. . Have one, but iirc, it's on a stand, for a very early car. Marcus...
