"The guys screen name was 3WLarry, a reference to deuce three window coupes he loved to build. One of them was so nice that big bucks Bruce Meyer, the guy who got Pebble Beach to accept hot rods, now owns one. Anyway 3WLarry just passed away. Many of us enjoyed his barbed posts and witty comments on the Jalopy Journal forum. He just passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was cremated and sent off by his good friends in the parachute pack of a fuel dragster. Watch this 50 second video, that "puff" of dust when the chute deploys is 3WLarry. RIP!"

 

Only Larry could go out in style like that....absolutely awesome. Kudos to all involved RIP!

Sad to hear this news- I bought some stuff from Larry years ago- hell of a guy, and definitely a pat of this place we call Hamb...from early on. Rest in Peace brother! you're in a better place now

I watched that video with no sound, it was very powerful that way. I kind of had an idea of what was coming, and was thinking of the driver of the car and his focus on the task he had. What a tribute.

here is a post on my post wen i first came in. When i read this i didnt know what to think. So then i dm ryan and asked wtf. Almost got me kicked out

 

Damn... I haven't been around for a while with the harvest season... very sorry to hear of Larry's passing...

 

Thinking about you today Larry, never got to meet you but wish I could have...rip.

 

We all have "group" memories of Larry, things he posted, things he liked, that sort of thing.

The quoted posts are personal memories of Larry, things he did or said to you and not to everyone.

It got me thinking about how I figured out I had won Tech Week the first time.

I can't recall all the details but I remember it was a tie, winner was sposed to announced on whatever day, and the powers that be were having a hard time picking. They missed the deadline.

I had an insider tell me it was down to me and one other guy.

So I was in the HAMB Chat with a few of the regulars biting my nails and about to pop.

I kept refreshing the HAMB and nothing was happening. Fidgit fume fumble, refresh, repeat.

Eventually I had a message and I told the guys in the chat, "I think I just won..." How do you know?
"I just got a friendship request from 3WLarry."

At the time I was more excited that Larry knew who I was than I was about winning and I was ecstatic about winning.

That's my one and only 3wLarry personal memory. I feel fortunate to have that and regret that we never got to make more. Hate it when I tear up over a fake interweb friend.......
