I am finishing up the rebuild of this 218 for a friend of mine and I need some clarification on the installation of the timing seal. Below is a picture of the old one but the way the seal rides on the balancer looks like its in the wrong direction. I have also included an picture of the new replacement seal. Can any one tell me if the way the old seal is installed is correct? If so, I will install the new seal in the same direction. does the metal lip go in or out of the timing cover (front or back)?
