I have a delima that I've struggled with a few years. I'm hoping you guys can help. I've got a 59 vette. Numbers matching. Less than 40k on the odometer. The problem... I only got it because Huricane Katrina roughed it up. I've always wanted to build a model a hotrod. Should I, 1. Sell vette to someone as a whole? 2. Pull original 59 driveline out and part out the rest to help fund model a project. Then run the 283 in project 3. Part out entire vette and walk away now. Lol Come on somebody. In stuck here!
I was drooling over a well worn 57 at a small car show Saturday. Man it would be a fun car to putt around in!
So it hasn't run since Katrina? Has it been stored indoors? I think you should sell it as is because there's a lot of guys here who can do amazing things with old cars. Like the others said, please post a few pics....
Sell the entire car. Give the new owner more than a basket case, and numbers matching is a selling point. Then use the money to fund a Model A build
The numbers matching is a great selling point for the Corvette purist. Sell it as a complete car, and make some cash for your project, and some Corvette purists day. Post it in the Corvette Forum for sale. Good luck!
Lets see a picture! Maybe we can trade and you will get your Model A and not spend a lot of time hunting for parts, And you could be driving it tomorrow!
Let me clarify. Katrina carried this car out of the garage it was in and flipped it over. Looks like a major loss, that is why I thought about running the 283 in a model a and having a cool story. I'm sure there are parts still of value. Tach drive generator. Rear end. Convertable top. Rear deck etc... Not sure it is worth restoring. Lots of boxes and dust on it. Lol Just looked it's 36,000 miles.
I would think that by far the most value could be obtained keeping the car complete since is has matching engine and chassis/body VIN numbers.
Just saw the picture.......that entire car is restorable.......lots of Corvette restorations have started with much less.
All of the mechanicals will be JUNK. Especially after 11 years of iron and metal sitting with salt water exposure. You had to "pickle" all of the mechanicals IMMEDIATELY upon exposure to Oxygen. I worked in Mississippi for a month after Katrina and saw a lot of the devestation caused by salt water intrusion. What a shame to have such a great vehicle destroyed by Mother Nature. I would sell the whole car as is and go on to your Model A project. VR&C.
Tractorguy is right. Sell the whole car to a Corvette guy, Get some cash....... then buy my car! Joking aside, matching numbers, 36,000 miles, a Corvette guy's dream! There are fiberglass wizards in the Corvette camp, and they build whole cars out of almost nothing, and yours looks like it's still a car! Good luck!
What is it? Single 4 bbl (which it look like) Power glide, a 4 Speed Dual quad car or some where in between? If it is a low horsepower car, I am thinking late 50's style custom- I know this is a 57- Or a gasser
Every 59 Corvette is restorable. It would be worth far more to you if you sell it as a whole than try to sell off damaged pieces here and there and wait years to get rid of them. Oh yeah, I sure hope you aren't a photographer by trade......he he
Stick it on Ebay and see what the market says it's worth. A car like that will be closely watched by the Corvette guys and there will be a bidding war.
It was rinsed and engine pickled. It rotates. Nothing further down the line though. Very sad. The guy I got it from bought it new. It is a low horse power with power glide. Some say it's undesirable. But it is a vette.
I see where it got tossed around but did it get wet? As in under water? I go with the advertise it to the Corvette brigade and see what happens. Someone out there has a 59 that is missing what you have and can mix and match and make a car out of it.
just the history is worth $$$ , don,t part it out , it would be a big mistake .... my 2 cents worth .....
This car is very fixable!!! Fiberglass is a piece of cake to fix right. You would be insane to part it out!!! The Corvette people are goofy..almost as bad as Mopar guys. Get two or more Corvette guys in a bidding war. BTW, the 283 in the Vette is ONLY good for a numbers matching car. Sell the Vette as one unit!!!!! You will get top dollar for a COMPLETE car!!!! Banged up or not, those cars are NOT made anymore... KEEP THAT IN MIND Your Pal, Gary (40 plus years in the body, paint and restoration business.)
Sell it whole. Let somebody else restore it, or whatever. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
^^^ What they said, keep it complete and let the market decide. It would be a shame to part out since it's numbers matching and someone will preserve it. Don't overcapitalize.
OK, I think you know what everyone here thinks so I won't bother adding to it, but have you made up your mind?
