RIP Blackie, what a loss he was one great guy, talk to any person that showed a car at his event and they will tell you how well they were treated, I had a number times that we were in Vegas at the sane time for SEMA and he loved rolling those dice and you could always tell which table he was at because he had people standing 3 and 4 deep around him and his table. You will be missed...

I've meet a few of the great ones. He was the one who I felt was most genuinely interested in meeting me. A great ambassador for our "sport".

His inviting me to display my car at his annual show is one of the the greatest compliments that I've ever had. What an honor to simply even speak with the man. He was something very special. RIP ...

You will be missed my friend. One hell of a gentleman and an honor to have known you. Godspeed but i'm bummed…… damn blackieroast_11_3_12-003-800.jpg

  9. X2. He invited me to show my black 29 PU when I showed it at the Oakland Roadster Show in 1994. It truly was an honor. I have often regretted that the Oakland show was the only time the car was ever formally shown as Blackie's invite was treasured. Over the years I have talked to him whenever I had a chance. He has done so much for our rod and Kustom hobby. He is truly missed. RIP

I've known Blackie since the '50s, I'd greet him with "Mike!" He'd turn, surprised with, "Who's calling me that?"
Then, the warm smile that lit up the circle... ("Mikes" was our little joke, I first pulled it on him when I was just a punk!) He said, 'Nobody calls me that, who do you think you are?'
"The other Mike," I said, or something to that effect. Pulled that on him for 60 years...

But the respect was always there, and he knew it. You know, Blackie was someone I always looked forward to seeing again. Always.
I'll see you again, "Mike". Promise.

This is a picture of the black granite gift from Fresno to Blackie at the Fresno Convention Center. Unveiled the morning of the opening of the 50th Autorama. Way better than the picture I took that morning.

  21. I met Blackie when I was at the Roadster Show in January with 2 of my friends from Connecticut. We were in awe of him.

I met Blackie while attending the GNRS at the San Mateo Event Center in 2003. I even got my picture taken with him! He was very much a gentleman and treated me as if I had been a life long friend.
I hope that right this minute he is out cruising the galaxy in his Black Modified ! RIP Blackie.

  28. He was certainly one of the pioneers, beautiful workmanship on everything he built. Never met him but knew of his work, What was the correct pronunciation of his last name?
