Were they trying to reinvent the Anycar?

Nice work on the body. Developing skills like that has so much more value than the video game skills most of the guys your age are "investing" their time in.

Like someone dragged an electromagnet through a 1970's junkyard an welded everything they caught together.

We'd better crush it after, then throw it into a volcano, then nuke that, just to be sure.

  13. Perfect example of: because you can doesn't mean you should

Looks like kids built it. "anycar?"

Children should be obscene and not heard...

I have decided to build this into the 2016 version of the Anycar. Spent the whole day at the local pick-a-part with a sawzall collecting pieces off various vehicles from the late '90s to mid 2000s. I think its going to be a real head turner when its finished.

Actually I have been battling with building the rear body panel. I finally got it to co-operate. My plan is to weld it in this evening so I should have pictures up later tonight.
Then I can finally move onto squaring up and bracing the body so I can fix the chop.

Amazing what a bit of fresh sheet metal will do for a car...great save!

  20. Yeah, I gasped when I read the thread title, too. Apparently, the PO who tried that frame swap didn't own a tape measure. Either that, or he never learned to read a tape mesure. Before anybody buys an old car and starts cutting on it, he should first go to Harbor Freight, Wal-Mart, or somewhere and buy himself a good tape measure and learn how to read it. Good rule of thumb is that, if the frame is wider than the body you propose to set on it, it's probably not going to fit very well.

Almost got all the welding done tonight. If all goes well Ill have it wrapped up tomarrow morning. That rear panel really kicked my ass. For such a simple looking panel I had to add a lot of shape to it to make it profile out correctly; almost gave up on it a couple times but in the end it turned out not too bad. Judging by the chop I would have to say no tape measures were involved at all.

haha no I used a wheel. I would have been at it for a month of sundays if I did it all by hand.

Not one of those things are a redeeming factor.
Actually the fact it lives is very depressing.

  28. I am impressed! How about a tutorial on how you made that back panel for those of us with limited metalworking under our belts?

Sorry guys, It was the first thing I thought of when I read the title. Apologies for any spit takes on keyboards.
While it's a ridiculous build, I do kind of like the way the corvette? bumperettes look on that Valiant rear end. May have to do something similar on my Lancer.

  30. That's some great work you're doing, GMC. The body is really coming together I'll be watching this thread from now on.
