p Started today on the air-spring suspension under the '63 Riviera. My friend. Jake made the spacers when he did another '63 Riv for a friend. I got the front started today, hope to get the rear done tomorrow and get started running lines and mount the tank. The object is for adjustable ride height and load carrying, we'll be towing a vintage trailer with the car.
I probably will end up keeping mine, too. I know this thread is a bit old but was wondering if you ever put shocks on the front of yours. Mine has been bagged for awhile now and I've decided that to keep driving it I need to put some shocks up front. It's okay until I hit a larger dip or bump at speed; then it ends up scraping the ground on the rebound. Steve
Steve, when I put air suspension on my `64 I decided to use Air -Ride Shock/ bag combo on the front. All the posts that I saw with relocated shock mounts looked sketchy to me. These units work really well for me.
I apologize for being negative, but long term, you'll hate the bags if you drive the car a lot. I have built a lot of Rivs and the best combo is a 3" drop and my custom QA1 shock app and my own custom panhard bar/rear control arms. I have a few Rivs running this set-up and are driven a lot and the owners love it. You already have the bags, so try them and see. PM me if you have questions.
Absolute nonsense. If you have a bagged Riviera, and you hate the ride, you built it wrong. My happy customers alone outnumber this negative opinion 14:1.
Bags are fantastic if "the look" is all you are after. 8:1 my customers hated it and wanted a performance suspension that is low and actually works in a semi-daily driven environment. I have no idea how the roads are in San Fran, but I can guarantee they are in better shape than anything in Miami. It's getting so bad down here you almost have to have a truck/SUV for a daily, regular car is not going to cut it. Each local is going to have a preference, just depends on what is most important goal of the build.
