  3. 1937 unemployment continued to drop to 14.3% dropping some 6.7% from the previous year. And the Engineering feat of the Golden Gate bridge opening gave Americans great pride, and the Millionaire Inventor / Industrialist set a new air record by completing the flight from Los Angeles to New York in 7 hours 28 seconds. After a number of strikes in the Auto industry General Motors were forced to recognize the UAW United Auto Workers Union. A major flood along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers caused millions to lose their homes in Ohio , Kentucky and Illinois. The pride of Germany the flying ship Hindenburg exploded while attempting to hook itself to a mooring post and signaled the end of the flying ship in 1937 as a major form of transport, and the immortal words of reporter Herb Morrison who was filming the Hindenburg " Oh The Humanity! The Humanity " were shown and heard around the world. One of the unsolved mysteries of modern times the disappearance of Amelia Earhart also occurred in this year.
    TAKE YOUR PICK!

Nice thread topic. "Artistes Decoratifs" evolved into Art Moderne by 1935. Come 1938 it would further evolve into "Streamline" which would be the predominant design style after the war.
Although Rust Heinz's Phantom Corsair is considered 1938, it was built on an older Cord chassis by Bohman & Schwartz. Both the Lagonda and Bugatti are from 1937.

During the depression, most people who had any money, didn't want to flaunt it, so cars weren't ostentatious (sp ?). By 1937 the recovery was in swing and styling was back in style !

As I understand things you couldn't have a billboard advertising beer in Canada, so they went to custom body builders to spend the advertising budget. Bob upload_2016-8-26_1-47-44.png

Those great Labatt's trucks were designed by Count Alexis de Sahknovsky. He had a particular style and was an early adapter of aerodynamic styling. I wonder if the shape impacted how much beer they could actually hold? He even designed a cab-over tow truck.
