A (dumb) upholstery question. What is the proper name of the cardboard material used for interior panels? Thanks

The black cardboardy stuff in large sheets is car panelboard. The thin stuff in small sheets is furniture panelboard. You want the black waterproof .10" thick kind for car door panels. Don't forget to put plastic between the door and door panel or the damp will warp it.

  7. I've used both. By far the best is the poly Sheets. They never warp.

Sid Chavers uses Luan plywood, illustrated on his tapes.
My mother in law, Joyce watched the door panel tape, (she's an A-1 upholsterer and seamstress) Joyce said she learned 3 new methods right off the bat!
I was impressed with Sid's method of clear plastic for a pattern. Set it up, look right through it for the attaching holes, mark with a Sharpie...
The Luan ply works excellent, it holds its 'flatness', but if necessary can be wetted and shaped with water and a heat gun. Permanent. Glue to it, staple to it.

  10. Any upholstery shop worth its weight in salt will sell the poly sheets.

The trade name on the Polly sheeting
is " Centra", 1/8" works well for interior
backing. It's also waterproof and heat
    formable.

  15. I uses 1/8 " ABS plastic panel board, it can be sanded, drilled, cut with a sharp knife and bent with a heat gun and is not affected by moisture.
I think it was the perfect answer for upholstery backing.

I used PCV Sheets for the door panels in my convertible. I love it never warp, water won't affect it.
