Making progress on our 1955 Zephyr Zodiac

Loads of work done, engine almost rebuilt, front clip repaired and repainted, interior being redone.

 

There used to be a few of those around here (Ontario Canada) along with the little brother 4 cyl Consul. Ford dealers sold them. All gone years ago.

An old mechanic told me he had one, a tie rod end wore out and fell out and the front wheels immediately flipped back into the fenders. A peculiarity of the steering/suspension setup. It was the first car to have McPherson strut suspension.

 

There was one here, not sure what year - stretched and convertibilized - ended up getting mashed. Apparently it was only good for parades and the owner was worried it might break in half or something...

Used to see them all the time down here. Very popular in NZ as well, even a few rare convertible models around as well. A few got turned into 1/4 mile runners in the day.
