Not a fan of stating the obvious... That said, here it goes. While the last El Camino and Ranchero posted are nice rides, they're too new for this forum. This was discussed earlier in this thread.

  3. iphone pictures 223_1.JPG iphone pictures 224.JPG This is a shot of one of the most tasteful & cleanest '57's I've ever laid eyes on.
It was at the Amherst Automotive Flea Market 2 years ago.
I chased it but never could reach the man selling it for the deceased owner. Many regrets that I couldn't land this car.
Note the added in '58 headlights, the 2 inch chop, tunneled taillights and a very potent FE big block.
    Car was the nuts!
    Wish it was mine.
In the end I wound up with an El Camino after a very long search.

Saw this Ranchero posted for sale elsewhere, this is the best looking chopped Ranchero I've seen. Any more of a chop just doesn't look right on these cars. Like the rear wheels wells on it as well. I think it's a '57 with a '58 clip..

  5. I sooo wanted that Ranchero. The man I spoke to that Sunday was selling for the widow of the past owner/builder.
The man sure possessed some talent.

Here's the one I've been working on for the last 3 years. I have had this car in my head since I was 10 or 11. I've shared a couple of pics here on this thread during the build....427, 5 speed tremec, 12 bolt with 3:55's, fender well headers, and so on...Basically the kind of car I dreamt of as a boy in the late 70's (A Street Freak - if you will)...Need to work out a few Gremlins here and there, but the car is 98% done in my mind.

    Hello,
After we got out of racing with our final explosion and fire in the 40 willys, we started racing motorcycles out in the So Cal desert. It was the European Scrambles and those 90 mile long Hare and Hound races. Our original tow vehicle was the 58 Impala with a trailer for the 2 dirt motorcycles. (Greeves 250cc) It was not cutting it as far as economy and ability to handle dirt roads leading to the race course. So, I purchased a 1965 red 327 El Camino. The air shocks worked well for the 2 bikes and paraphernalia in the back. I even put on an air gauge to get the exact readings in the air shocks. They worked well with the new Inglewood Tire Co. Redline wide tires hauling the bikes and stuff anywhere. upload_2016-8-22_4-39-10.jpeg upload_2016-8-22_4-40-2.jpeg To get The best mileage for those long hauls and living in So Cal prompted that I did not order the air conditioning package. It was a great car and was very handy. Sold it with 125k on it with only one battery and one water pump replaced in 1973. The odd thing was, the oil was black new and even after a complete oil change and a short drive, it was still black. But, the car ran perfectly and never faltered.
My wife wanted an air conditioned car for her, so we got another El Camino in 72. View attachment 3305052 Living in daily fog in So Cal... View attachment 3305053 The blue wheels lasted only 2 weeks. Larger tires and Corvette rims for the classic look was ok with my wife...yes! We kept that one until the first gas crisis in 77. The El Caminos were very useful, handy, served its intended purpose and lasted many miles of uninterrupted pleasure. The blue one with air was my wife's daily driver.

Looks dressed identical to the '71 I once owned, jnaki. Bought it off my friend's dad around 81. He bought it new, 350/270hp, TH, & a 12 bolt w/airplane gears. 31K on the clock when I got it. Re-did it in a Cadillac Mocha firemist, cowl hood, 7 & 8 rallys, and called it done. Still like them elkys. :D
I'd post a pic, but don't want my ass chewed out.....

    Hello,
How many blue 71-72 El Caminos can have the same Corvette rims in the USA? Who knows...I bought a set of wheels from some guy in So Cal in late 72. The tires were a little larger than the stock El Camino wheels, so I had the speedometer recalibrated. The bad thing about this El Camino was that it did not get good gas mileage. It was because of the federal gov't smog mandates and crapola on the motor. The best was 14.5mpg, the worst...8mpg with the air on and in town. But, my wife liked it because of the air conditioning...our first car with air. I also have a photo somewhere that shows our car with American 5 spoke mags all around. But, my files are on 3 different hard drives and a ton of family photo albums. It is taking a long time finding all of the stuff...

This was my daily driver throughout most the 90's in LA. I don't have a lot of photos. I bought it in Sun Valley in 1994 for $600, real live Tijuana interior, running and driving but no title. Back then the CA DMV had the address of the original owner, I sent a letter via US Mail, when it came back "Returned to Sender" that's all I needed to get a title, no back taxes etc. I loved that car, worked on it constantly until 2001 then I basically gave it away, (I briefly got into Zen Buddhism, and in order to save my "chi" I decided to shed myself of the "material posessions" that were weighing down my dharma.). A month later I was done with Zen and still kick myself in the ass for giving it away.
