The last Grasp Special '34 3 window build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by whodaky, Mar 23, 2012.

  1. The interior looks great, very racecar looking with the aluminium panels. I really like the green 5 window in the above picture too.

  2. Hey Whodaky
Great work my friend. Looks like you have been way busy, style is everything and you have nailed it.

    Thanks for the comments guys.
Here's a couple of shots of the header panel screwed in place and the rubber trim fitted around the wiper motors.
When the weather gets a bit nicer I want to put a couple more coats of paint on the header panel, as well as some clear.

Earlier this week got the new Rodder's Journal in the ol hot rod mail box. It's always good to get a new issue.
Also around a month ago I got the new Rolling Bone's book. It's a great inspiration.
When next I go to down to Port Fairy I will take this book for Tony to check out.

FB, I subscribe direct and yes I think it always arrives later than the Graffiti one's. But relatively speaking it is the same time quarter to quarter, so I just go with the flow.
I was just talking to Tony. Rita and him saw his specialist yesterday. He didn't get the pins and frame removed. However he is now allowed to put weight on the ankle, with the use of frame or crutches. It means he can get out in the garage and do some light stuff. Both he and Rita were very pleased.

  6. That's good news, I imagine he'll be happy to get out in the shed again. I haven't spoken to him for a long time (thought it better to give his space to focus on recovery) I may go and visit now that he's somewhat back on his feet.

If you subscribe via Graffiti you will see it before most in the USA see it.

  10. Glad to hear Tony is on the mend, I haven't spoke with him for about month, it's my turn to call him. Geoff your workmanship is outstanding, it's a different coupe both inside and out since that night ages ago when I was sitting in it at Tony's talking to you. Keep up the posts Geoff we all love reading about what you have been doing and sorry to hear about your recent family loss as well.

I was moving cars around in the garage today. I had the coupes out in the front yard together, so thought I would take a bunch of shots!

    Thanks Chad.
Hey Scott, yeah it has been a long time.
I loved the Zero engineering stuff the first time I saw it.
I haven't worked on a model car in so long. Maybe I have forgotten how?
Yes I have been real busy working on the 3W since I brought it home in November. I think most of what I have done has been an improvement. I have had no real set backs with it.
I am greatful to Garry for letting you know what I have been up to.
I am hoping when the weather improves to go down to Rita and Tony's in the 3W, now that it is a lot more user friendly. I sort of had in mind a bit of a road trip and maybe would head up your way and catch up with you guys and to let you see the 3W first hand. I have no set plans as yet, but will keep you informed.
    I catch you guys whenever.

Just been doing little bits and pieces on the 3W this last couple of weeks. The last few days mainly paint detailing on the engine.
Still been very cold and wet here. Although Saturday is looking like it may be better, hopefully I will be able to get the coupe out and give it a run. Thinking I might go down to the island for lunch. We'll see.

Geoff, is that a "spun" aluminium wire wheel cover I see in the background?
I put spun in the inverted comers because I know it would not be out of you're skill set to wheel up a set.
I really like the look of the spun covers and would like to see what these look like on you're 3 window.

Yes Wardog, that is an aluminium cover I wheeled up and fitted a wire wheel hubcap to. Next time I have the 3W out I will fit it to one of the wheels. I did a shot with this cap on one of the wheels of Tony's 5W, but don't ask what page.

Here's some thing a bit different. When I first got the 3W, both Tony and myself agreed that it needed a chrome windscreen frame.
So recently I got to thinking and came up with this.
I basically made aluminium covers for my windscreen frame using aluminium builders flashing material. They clip on and remain in place. It was a bit of work and tested my patience. But after they were made, fitted and buffed I was very happy with the results.
The best part I spent no money and got a great result and it is something Tony and I can do on the windscreen frame for The Last Grasp Special.

Thanks guys. The windscreen frame cover turned out way better than I hoped it would. It was a bit of mucking around and I probably have round 10 hours in it, over the course of couple of days.
It suits the car to a tee and runs with Tony and my home- build philosophy and better yet cost nothing.
I have made a lot of stuff over the years out of aluminium builders flashing, so I had some here.
Tony sorry to hear your leg was giving you grief this morning. I hope my post put the pain to the back of your mind, even if it was only briefly. Just wait until you see this change in person, you will be stunned and amazed.
