I saw a pic once of the Baroumes Bros. car when it was yellow, I read that over the winter they added a blower and zoomies, and paint I think. the crash was so bad that I heard alex baroumes was in acoma for a couple of weeks. .when he came to, he opted to never get back in arace car again...wise choice after that crash!
Anyone know who bought Coney Island Ralph's Anglia or where it went? Picture from Englishtown a few years ago. And still looking for Cali Bros A/G Anglia. Pat
In reply to the Cali Bros. Anglia. My buddy and I bought it in April of 1971, & brought it to Staten Island. I have some pics, but can't figure out how to post them. Sold it in the mid 70's. My buddy sold it so I try and get in touch w/ him & see if he remembers where it went. Ever since the early 80's, I've been looking for it too. Just for old time sake.

I thought his Anglia was T-boned at the end of Westhampton when he crossed over the track in front of two cars that had just made their run done the drag strip. Jimbo
Jimbo you are right about that Anglia, the one I referenced was the one pictured which was a built for NETO car. It was way after his gasser racing. Pat
J&S Speed Center, Westminster, CA 1964 Hello, It was now 1964 and for the last several years, the drag racing scene was changing over to more modifications allowed for the street legal classes. The muffler and exhaust pipes were still required, but now parachutes and super wide racing slick tires… for a street legal class? The Anglia in the photo was from Westminster, CA and was one of the first smaller lighter weight cars used for the street legal Gas Coupe and Sedan classes. J&S 1964 Lions Dragstrip All Gas Coupe and Sedan Meet From the late 50’s to the early 60’s the top racers seemed to all have 1940-41 Willys coupes. There were very few Fords and Chevy cars that were in the Gas Coupe and Sedan classes. But, within the next three years, the explosion of the hunt for lightweight (+lighter weight) coupes and sedans became prominent. Some went to short pickup beds in the 40 Willys, the smaller 33-35 Willys coupes, while others went looking for smaller bodied coupes and sedans. These Anglia sedans and sedan delivery cars had big motors, big slicks and most now had stick hydramatic transmissions. They laid to rest, their larger coupes and sedans and picked a smaller Anglia or Austin cars for their lightweight stature. Jnaki At Lions Dragstrip during the 1963-64 season, this little red Anglia sedan had the "gasser" look, being sponsored by a popular , local (Orange County) speed shop. It was one of the first Anglia sedans in the Gas Coupe and Sedan Class at Lions. Within the next several years, they multiplied like bunnies on a spring break. Anglia sedan 60 inches wide... Willy coupe 70 inches wide… It is a little crowded inside those Anglia sedans. Anglia weight 1600 lbs. vs Willys Coupe weight 2300 lbs. on average: 700 lbs. weight difference. Willys 170 inches... Anglia sedan 152 inches... 18 inches shorter. The next "gen" Gas Coupes and Sedan Class race car... before the whole class grouping disappeared...
Since Gassers were classified by weight per cubic inches the Anglia had the others beat not by weight so much as smaller frontal area, high center of gravity for weight transfer for traction, and a short (90") wheelbase for weight transfer. In fact at one point NHRA outlawed cars less than 94" - not Anglias per se, but effectively them specifically. Some racers in the AA/GS class switched to 4-door Prefects with a 94" wheelbase, others ran at non-sanctioned match races with the Anglias until NHRA relented and let them back in.
not really a gasser per say, but a 48 anglia never less. this was the start go mt anglia base comp.coupe I was starting to build. body was from a shop not to far from my present home and was originally raced as a comp. coupe. wound up selling car to a fellow in pa. and he completed it. Like I said not a gasser but still an anglia. Black car is from the body I started with. enjoy
