Is this a restored car in front of a closed north east dragstrip. It looks like a new picture.

    Hello,
Here is Art Malone at Bakersfield 1960 in Garlits' fed. He seems quite happy...
    Thanks,

Marty, Jack Williams car originally had a front mounted supercharger, right? (Part of the reason for the somewhat unusual body shape?)

Glad you enjoyed the video - it is linked on TwoToGo for the Twins, especially the Greek's Twin, but still lots of history and other memories.

Fraze, Boyd beat me to it. I have always been a big fan of that car, since seeing it in Hot Rod. I was at Fremont when the chute failed and he hit the catch-net, doing some damage to the nose section. I understand that Jack built the entire car, body and all. Maybe Boyd will tell us more, since he is from Canada as well.

  16. Jack built the car in the early 60's. I think 63 was when it had the front mounted blower. The first time I saw the car in 65.I think.it had a top mounted blower. Jack had a custom automotive business. He was the "go to guy" He made several parts for my first Altered. The car was rebuilt after Fremont. Jack pssed away a few years ago.His family still have the car. I wasn't able to find a current picture.

I don't remember Pepes Pizza sponsorship, but it could have been Boyd Penington, who died at lions in '64, at the top end, or Harrell Amyx or Joe "the Jet" Jackson, both of whom died at Lions in fuelers at Lions in '66. If I remember correctly, around one/third of all drag racing fatalities in '67 happened at one drag strip: Lions. Those of us who raced fuel cars there kept that in mind, but we also kept racing there.

Seems that Chuck Finders was involved in a BUNCH of cars, especially Willys.
I worked with a guy up here that grew up in the L.A. area, and I recall him telling me his dad knew Chuck pretty well.

Boyd, small correction on the date, it was taken July 1st (Canada Day) in Langley, at Jack Williams house! The collection of cars is the Syndicate Scuderia, Earl Pogue's 1963 world championship Dragmaster, and last but not least, my 1958 fuel flat head Chassis Research TE-440

Sorry these following shots aren't in motion, but both the Syndicate Scuderia and my Wild Thing, do get driven still! Jack had changed away from the front drive blower by the mid 60's in order to remain competitive. The blower arrangement was not a Potvin deal, it was one of Jack's own design and casting! All the parts still exist and the molds for the parts as well.

Small edit, although the car isn't in motion, the pistons are... This was a local show that invited us out. Too bad my 'hired shoe' didn't remember to flip the mag switch after the first spin for oil pressure! Oh well!

P.S. For any roundy round guys checking this thread out, the sharp eyed of you will spot the 1935 Packard-Bell Radio Special midget, lovingly referred to as the "singlestick" for its single overhead cam offy engine! Jack was quite the collector!
