As mentioned in the PM.s I sent to both you and Atwater Mike, I thought of him as soon as I saw the name and the lettering that looked different than the rest of the car. He was known for very fast cars in the early 60' that I recall-was from El Nido area back then I think-not sure-been too long ago. Atwater Mike can find out I'm sure.
I believe the Codds are in the process of moving out of Cali, Lester was my first thought as well. But couldn't think of who to ask that would know for sure.
Here's a link too some of Lester Codd old drag raced hot rods from hot rod magazine http://www.hotrod.com/news/1005rc-1930-model-a-coupe/
Found these on Facebook at the Merced speedway site Probably a few years ago Mark Codd is driving (Lesters son) Plus killer Codd picked up this hauler awhile back
Wow! You've been busy! Now that makes me wonder if Lester and his son did the restoration on the racecar. I am thinking that's his son driving it there.
Austinrod.......Now you have really done it!! You dug too deep into the history!....Now you have to go and buy that orange hauler.......LOL. Also someone mentioned above about mounting tailights up on the rear of the sail panels.....He is correct as this was a common place towlights were mounted on these cars. I was going to suggest it to you and even send you a pic of an old race car body I had that was done that way, But My personal opinion I like your car the way it is and did not want you to do anything to the body. So I just kept to myself....Hell your body is probably better than any of the 3 I am using to make my hot rod out of.
one other thing I wanted to point out is I am pretty sure your car is a 33 instead of a 34 Judging from the doors. Not that it matters much just wanted to throw that out there.
Here are a few pics of some of the old 33-34 jalopy racers that donated sections and bits and pieces to build my 3 window. I thought I had pics of my other 3 window jalopy racer on this computer but I could not find any. Notice the custom tow lights molded into the race car in the second pic..LOL
Wow you have some cool finds the last one the best ,and those headlight on second one I've never seen before so cool
Capmotorsports said 3 1/2 years ago "A friend of mine in Atwater Ca. just finished one. left the body and cage how it was. He rebuilt a flat head V8. Rebuilt the brakes. funs and drives great. Good luck." http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-ford-x-jalopy-racing-car-worth.536146/page-3
Those photos on the clay race track-------WOW!! So cool! I'm having flashbacks to Ascot Park Gardena figure-8 coupes, circa 1968.
Those shock towers are badass! Looks like the ends of a 30s Ford rear wishbone. I don't know why I haven't seen more of that on other cars. Incredible find!
