Gotta say that I like your rear window treatment a little more than the wrap around on that '55.
The Nomad tailgate bananas are a nice touch.

 

Is your rear window and trim from an "A" body El?

 

Hi being Australian ive always wondered what a 55-57 Chevrolet ute (El camino) would look like you've done a great factory looking car. Our local company Holden a division of GM would import the chassis drive train from Canada and build the bodies locally. Here is the last one they produced the 1952

 

Yes, I used the rear window section from a 69-72 ElCamino. I changed the glass angle and the B-pillars to get the right flow and give it more of a factory built look.

 

The Holden Utes have always fascinated me. I have had several 1937 Chevy cars and trucks and thought I might one day like to have a 37 Chevy Ute. My Son works for GM and when I built the 56 ElCamino I did some research to see if there was ever a 56 GM Concept or if Holden had made one using the 56 Chevy design. I could not find anything so I came up with my own.

 

Raymay - that was going to be my guess! Did some rust repair around the rear window of my O/T '72 El, the shape of yours caught my eye. Nicely done.

 

I saw the New Jersey '55 Saturday at Syr, and thought he did a great job. The interesting part to me was that he chose color scheme very close to that on your '56. Thanks for posting pics of the trucks together. Some magazine needs to do a feature on them. Amazing coincidence! Great minds?

Drove the 56 to Michigan again and checked out the Frankenmuth 2016 AutoFest. Had a great weekend at the event. Got a little pin striping done on the dash. Every time I bring it to Michigan, the car crowd there seems to have a real interest in my build. Some even thought it was an old concept that I found stored away.
One of the AutoFest reps really liked it and picked the 56 for the Nifty New Yorker award. Recently found a picture at the awards ceremony on their website.

 

Just found this puzzle website that had a puzzle of my 56 from a picture somebody took of me in Michigan cruising Woodward a few years ago. Not much of a puzzle guy but I was able to have some fun and completed it in 4 minutes.

Last winter I freshened up the engine and upgraded to tubular control arms on the 56 which made a nice improvement to the overall ride. Recently attended the 20th Syracuse National and drove the 56 again this year. It can still draw a crowd and some nice compliments that I do appreciate.

Some of my builds involved making a design model to see where my ideas might take me. I originally did a very small Hotwheels size 56 and Several years ago I built a larger scale one by modifying a Franklin Mint diecast model. That one has been sitting unfinished and almost forgotten in a box until I recently got together with a friend at a cruise night who offered to airbrush the colors for me. He did a great job making me very happy with the end result.

 

Attended the 2022 Syracuse Nationals again this year with the 56. The car still draws a lot of attention and was nominated for a second time since 2013 to be displayed with the Designer Dozen contenders.
