Has anyone used one of these axles? Who makes them and how was the quality?

I won't put any money into Speedway parts that my life may depend on.

I had one. Unwrapped it and promptly sent it back and got a super bell. Quality of the speedway one was beyond awful.

  5. I personally don't even like the look of an aftermarket dropped axle. Look for an original and have it dropped.

I've been using the So-Cal forged axle on production chassis coming out of my shop. So far the quality has been good. Their chrome axles have been really good to date. No customer complaints so far? I'm sure it's foreign made. I like Anson dropped originals but nice originals are getting harder to find. I currently have an Anson dropped deuce axle under my new deuce pu and 2 more in the wings for special projects.

With all the axle-snapping I've heard about, and cars wrecked, I wouldn't run anything but ford axles.

  10. Do the right thing. Contact Nostalgia Sid's for an original axle.
He's very helpful and a wealth of knowledge.......

Currently Chassis Engineering does not have any of their forged axles in stock, and it doesn't look good in the foreseeable future. I spoke with their rep at BTTF's and she said their supplier doesn't like to bother with their small order (evidently the supplier is a large manufacturer for industry and the axles are a really small order, with picky visual requirements as well).

Looks like the value of original Ford axles is going up all the time.

Thanks BP, you touched one and it was crap. Thats the info I was looking for. BTW, I talked to Jason at Pete and Jakes and he said in 40 years Superbell has never had a axle break!

  15. There are numerous photos on here that would refute that - just saying

  16. Jason was not being honest with you. Well maybe he was, perhaps he meant that they never broke one.

Can you share any details about what was wrong with it?

I also would like to hear a more specific problem with the Speedway axle than "beyond awful".

Copied this from the Speedway website:

    Merchant Response:
Jim33, thank you for your feedback. We can ensure you that our axles are indeed forged. During the manufacturing process, the parting lines are ground down, and then the product is bead blasted to clean them up. This virtually removes all evidence of the forging parting lines. We cannot leave the big, unsightly forging parting lines on these parts because some of them are also chrome plated, and the smooth finish allows for better coverage and an overall more attractive appearance.

This was an answer to a buyer that questioned as to whether the axles were forged as he could not see parting lines.

Maybe they are just forging the shape on a cast axle? I don't know much about this, but that pic does not look forged. Why so porous?

  24. I think the pic was or is a cast Super Bell.

Yes the picture is a broken SuperBell axle.

I'm strill hoping for a more detailed post on The "beyond awful" comment on the quality. of the forged Speedway. This was, after all, the question asked by the OP.

  27. i used a So-Cal forged axle on my `30 coupe , looks great and so far so good. i did nothing to it other than powered coating. i believe it was $249 on sale

on my `28 tudor and `36 coupe i have Superbell...fingers crossed

i'd like to know a bit more about the axle Russco posted....it looks like it twisted first before breaking?

  28. As I recall Super Bell had a bad run of axles. Seems like we discussed that a year or two back.

A cast axle can work well for everyday driving as long as it is a good casting. if it is a poor casting, it will be lucky to work on a roller.

  29. Was that car/axle in an accident? It looks like it bent and then broke? Not to say that I'd run one - I prefer forged stuff - it bends and doesn't break.
