In very recent years I believe Burke showed up at the Chili Bowl with a midget and ran in some of the preliminary events.

image.png This is one of my favorite threads ever. Hate to post this but just saw on Facebook a guy got his car stolen. Y'all keep your eyes peeled. Info is in pic. Hang the bastards.

Why the hell would someone steal a car like that? How the hell are you gonna get rid of it, or even part it out??

I worked in a prison here in California the last 15 years of my career teaching auto mechanics to inmates. I enjoyed it but it could get frustrating at times. After one particularly difficult day, I was discussing it with a guard and he put in a nutshell so to speak. He said "They don't call it "DOPE" for nothing!". I have found that to explain lots of criminal behavior and could explain this brain trust action. Sort of like the guy that strolled into my shop many years ago with an impact in his and a sob story about being down on his luck and having to sell his tools. I asked him what brand and after looking it over for some time, said rather confused "CP". I am not the brightest person but I sure know the brand of my impact without a search of the unit! I do hope the car and trailer is found safe and sound and the "Dopes" that took it are found and spend a very long time driving another prison instructor crazy with brilliant questions. Not for the instructor's sake, but also of ours.

I've seen that particular car run in vintage events and it is a very fast midget.

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Yes, I know it is a midget, but many of you on this thread have been very helpful in getting the restoration of the Edmunds CBM-7 this far. No more dummy block and head. Full race engine has been gone through and installed and the "hand" lettered, silver leaf lettering, says 1965. Upholstery, plumbing, and.... Getting close.

I contacted Dan Shaw (Josh's Dad), but he was really busy and coming to my home added an extra effort. So David Root, of Root Bros. Design, did the lettering. David is the son of Andy Root, who painted the car.

  16. Car looks great! Are you upholstering side panels, seat and back to tail, or just the seat? Great job.

Bob Scott also relieved Ed Elisian in 1954.

His friend Bob Sweikert was signaling to him as he attempted to qualify in his own car that year late on (I believe) the last day of Time Trials. Bob got in three laps more than fast enough to make the show when the excited Sweikert ran onto the pits waving his hands together over his head in celebration. Poor Scott misinterpreted Sweikert's gesture as a signal that he had finished his qualifying run and slowed and came in on what would have been his 4th qualifying lap. Either there wasn't enough time for another attempt or it was the last strike against the car. I can't remember which.

Scott died at Darlington in July of that year.
