Floorboard...thank you for your informative & interesting post on the non S/W gauges. That took you a bit of time. I know this is a S/W thread, but I'm sure no one will nit-pick if I too show another non-S/W gauge, which closely resembles the one that S/W was selling at the time. Note the similarity. This one is an Electric Auto-Lite Co., of LaCrosse, WI. They actually bought Motometer in 1934 & by the end of WWII, became the largest producer in the U.S. of 400 different type of car parts (including gauges).

Found these in a donor car I bought that was sitting in the Florida woods for over 40 years. Cleaned them up and they all work great. Yep, I did get it from you. Any clue what it's from?

You've even got the Terraplane speedo to the right of it. There's a pretty neat variation where the light shines thru the face.

Ok, here's one that's a total mystery to me. It's rear mount, little smaller than a 2 3/8" gauge, curved glass and both fuel and oil have electric senders? Anybody seen this one before? JohnnyA

The one on the right sure looks close to this one...might be the year before or after.

Btw...I've posted it before but this site is an invaluable resource for identifying gauge clusters.

Yeah, that's a really good suggestion it's pretty dead on for the configuration BUT '36 gauges are kinda that goldish color. Maybe a military version?

Better look at it after I gave it a good scrub.

Question: My bud in San Jose (Bonneville Butch) was asking about some 'curved faces' for old S/W winged gauges. (this was in '80, before the 'New Old' gauges came back)
I suggested watch crystals, so Butch cruised up El Camino Real and stopped at every watch shop from Santa Clara to San Francisco!
He collected over 30 crystals, all the correct size for S/W 2-1/16" gauges.

How he was able to 'peel' the bezels off (and roll 'em back on) is my question.
Also, are you guys 'cleaning' the black faces or having them photo-printed (or some other esoteric process) to make them 'new' again?

I have a Stewart-Warner 160 MPH speedo in my F100. Lately it sits on '0', but sometimes jumps up and works for 1/4 mile or so.
I'm sure it's dirty inside, is there a procedure to dismantle or clean it???

Which speedo? You're usually better off sending it to a speedo shop to have it rebuilt and calibrated.

For a simple trick, pull/pry out the little 1/8" plug in the backside of the speedo if it's there. I don't recall what era they were in, but it's worth a look. If you have one, you can add a couple drops of sewing machine oil in there and give it a spin with a drill and a matchstick.

If no plug is there, at least give a couple drops of 3-in-1 oil to the input of the speedo. Not enough to drown it though.

The 8000 rpm 5inch tach with Joseph Weidenhoff Inc on the face was used on Weidenhoff magneto test benches. I have one on the steering column of my roadster. The W&H Ducoil dist spins it at the correct speed. Looks real cool. Greg
