Technical SBC Double hump heads

Hi All,

Not sure if this is the right place on the forum, if not Sorry and please move.

Can anyone please give me a good close up picture of the "Humps" and measurement.

Reason of the information is I am wanting to fake my heads to look like Camel heads, not to sell the off as them, just to give the effect for on the Slingshot.

Why? You can probably pick up a set fairly reasonable.

 

I can take a pic tonight with a tape measure so you can see the size of the humps and everything. I met a guy that tig welded some aluminum heads up to look like double humps once looked pretty cool.

I guess you could make it out of 10 ga. and epoxy it to the head and paint over it.

 

I saw a set that were bondo'd! They didn't perform as well as real ones though, haha

If I were gonna go through the trouble, I'd make 'em TRIPLE hump & let the questions begin!
You know the ones, factory only cast 6 sets, super duper top secret, experimental and only expedited to chosen drag race & trans-am teams...one set somehow escaped to the public...that's the ones. Yea, that's the ticket....

 

Now your talkin everyone would love one more hump to play with. People would go crazy.

Here are the numbers.
Intake edge to verticle edge of hump=3&3/8"
Hump width=2&1/8"
Hump height=1&1/4" (from block deck)
Space between humps is 9/16"
Radius of hump=5/16"
Horizontal casting line between humps=1&1/16" tall from block deck

Yeah I know its a vortec but it is a sbc.

 

Merlin, they are not that cheap or easy to find over here in the UK

Ah my bad didn't realize you were across the pond.

 

I was a machinist for thirty years, please don't hold that against me.
I had to make parts for fabricators, etc on prints worse than that.

In general, yes, they are the same, but over the years, there were some slight variations, mostly from the casting process. This is a pair of NOS castings dated 1967, I have seen some that even had machine marks cutting through parts of the humps.

 

and so many go to the effort / trouble to REMOVE them...
so'sss people didn't know what they are...

 

I just put this set on my '65 Sting Ray. I've seen them for $100 each at the Indy swap meet.

 

Good idea on a sleeper/race car, fake a set of aftermarket heads to look like double humps.

 

Question, if the total width of the humps is 2 1/8" how can the humps be 5/16 radius (two humps @ 5/16 R =20/16s plus 9/16 = 29/16s right? and 2 1/8 =34/16 for a total of 5/16 difference. I dunno, maybe I'm bad at math.

 

How about using Power Pack heads, and add the Camel Humps to them, keeping the pyramid? "Camel Packs or Power Humps". DZAUTO, over on ChevyTalk.Org, took his Vette Camel Humps, and made them look like Power Packs. Not long ago, I had a set of "single Hump" heads; someone had used 2 barrel, rectangular castings, and added a single hump to the medial end of the rectangle. I could figure out what they were, and the casting numbers did't make any sense with the single hump. Turned out to be BONDO! I gave those heads away; they were actually in good shape. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

 

Had one double hump, went to local swap meets, talked to Chevy buds, only pairs for sale. "Why don't you just buy the pair?" I only needed the one. I held out. Finally, I found one.
Can't blame a guy for tryin' ta get ahead...

 

Know a guy who is a master of "fakery". One of the matching number corvette stereotypes. He uses silly putty from toy store to make the impressions, fills them with Jb weld epoxy with Vaseline as a release agent & after dry uses a pneumatic needle scaler used to remove welding slag to give it the desired look. Works amazingly well. He's done it to block casting numbers, date code numbers , even used machinists foil as a number mold using the firing order numbers off intakes, rearrainged to be gm part numbers, his specialty was Winters foundry snowflakes , mists 1403 krylon dull alluminum over the intake manifolds. A particular one he done often was a ground clean of "Holley markings" contender intake & next thing you know it looks like a late 60s early 70s SBC Holley perf intake. Silly putty 101. He's also a guy who once said its ok to advertise a car as numbers matching so long as you don't use the words original engine...... That's just wrong. Lol ......Flux

The radius callout on the hump is accurate, because I used a washer with a 5/8" I.D.(see photo). I had to nearly stand on my head to get the numbers so they may have been rounded up or down. I'm sure for the OP's purposes; they are close enough.

 

I'm just surprised at how helpful everyone is. As I read this thread I expected to see the OP being flamed for wanting to fake the humps.
