Anyone have any info or history of this car? Saw a picture of it a long time ago and thought it was a killer looking car, and I just recently came by this good shot of it. -Dean
No info for ya but that is awesome looking. 210 sedan like mine. Deep chrome reverse wheels like that would be a serious find today.
I don't have any more pics of the 57,but I know they ran a fed at one point also...I'll see if I can dig up a few photos. Scott Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That car and the one to the right were cars that Shig and Jack owned. D & E gassers. At one time they were both class record holders. Won both classes at the Winternationals(63 I think ) And Indy in 64. I with my best friend Steve Steck had a small part in these cars and pit crewed for them. We raced until NHRA went to bracket racing and that is why you see the 4 sale sign in the back window. Jack got out of Drag racing and went to circle racing even ran at Riverside in a NASCAR race. And some of the smaller circle tracks that used to be in SoCal. Shig went on to have a Dragster for a while. Jack was a great tune up guy and had a shop in Bellflower after he left Oscar Gregory Chevrolet.
Great Photo of Shig's '57! I actually own the 2nd car, the Seafoam Green '55 (the door is seen in the photo) that Bill Peach drove for Jack. It is the only surviving car of the 3 car team that they had that included Shig's '57, Ted Radoumis' '55 and Bill Peach's '55. Shig's '57 and Ted's '55 were later sold or used for circle track racing in which they were destroyed. I was able to mechanically restore Bill's '55 and run it at the now closed Carlsbad Raceway in '01 with Ted Radoumis, Bakersfield (at about the same time) for the California Hot Rod Reunion and Goodguys Event. I plan to restore it back to when Jack and Bill Ran it in around '63. I have about 12-15 photos of the '57 and both '55's. David Totten, I would like to talk to you about this car as I am looking for more info and pictures of the cars .
When I think "gasser" this is what my mind's eye sees. The classic Willys as well but more this, and never the silly nosebleed straight axle 'toon cars.
Hello, Great story on the team from Shig's Garage. Ted Radoumis' Willys pick up also had a great history and will be remembered... Forever... RIP, TED... Jnaki The Willys pickup just had the "stance..."
No, not by choice but, the black primered RF Fender became a team trademark. The Park Street Garage had a "Clover-Leaf" off-ramp exiting the 91 Freeway. The cars were flat towed behind the early Chevy/GMC Pick-ups owned by Oscar Gregory that were given to Jack. Upon returning from the tracks, the cars would sometimes jack knife into the rear of the trucks. Jack was a lead mechanic at Oscar Gregory Chevrolet and would pull a primered factory replacement off the shelf and slap it on. They raced often and there was never time to re-paint so they left them that way and it became a team trade mark. The '55 and '57 both had them. I don't believe Ted ever had one on his '55 though.
