This thread brought up some good old memories. I was eat up with the space program and the Apollo missions when I was a kid. It occupied nearly every waking moment of thought. During those heady times, Shell gave away the coolest (to me) aluminum coins. they were one of my most prized possessions. I still recall some of the images on them. Around that time our house burned and I lost my coins and my live baby alligator. tough year but great old memories. :)

  3. These are Sunoco coins from 1969.

Stuff like Zippo lighters and keychains and screwdrivers were pointless to carry, because the help (or my boss, or my brothers) would "light-finger-louie" every damned one.

I mean, how many damned Zippo lighters does one bum need?

This my Sinclair soap. I keep it in the bathroom on a high shelf. I can see some kid trying to use it if I didn't. I think they still sell it, but the new soap is white. The original soap is green.

At the Standard stations here, they had the full place settings.
Large and small plates, fruit and salad bowls, tea cups and plates, and then you could patch in the extras, like S & P shakers, gravy boat, butter caddy, serving dishes, ect.
I know this because my mother still has the complete 16 place setting!
She graduated in '66 and went nuts collecting the whole set. She even had friends and co-workers helping track down the missing pieces.
I don't know if they're super fancy, just simple white porcelain with thin gold rims, made by Royalton China Co. from Japan. They look nice, thou.
Stopped by her house today, and pulled them out of the upstairs closet, to snap a couple pics.

And of coarse she was a secretary there at the time, so they're packed in pretty neat, era correct boxes.

Also, note the era correct blue shag carpet still holding up.:p

My dad owned and ran a Richfield Service Station. I remember the stamps and the one thing that stands out was packets of wildflower seeds. I would grabbed some every few days and spread the seeds around my small town.

We had Mobil gas out here on the west coast. In the 60's they gave away checkered flags black and white with the Mobil red horse across the middle. I still have mine will try and get a photo tomorrow. They also had red flags with a black and white Mobil horse in the middle.

    just sayin'

Matchbooks apparently used to have the striking material on the front cover, at some point it was moved to the back. Been downhill ever since

Just the other day, I was telling my 7 yr old daughter that when I was a kid, most cereals had a prize in the box. She was very impressed by that!

This is what happens to Whistleblowers...:p
My '67 Falcon still has a 1972 calender on the visor. It was there when I got the car from my grandma, I figured if it had been there for 20 years already, I wasnt gonna mess with it!

  28. My wife's father owned a couple of stations and when we cleaned out his home I found this stuff which may or may not have come out of the stations. There were plenty of maps and other literature. Davisgarage002.jpg Davisgarage.jpg 100_3683.jpg 100_3682.jpg tuneup.jpg 20150522_165544.jpg 1467000887929.jpg
