Johnny Mantz #9 and Walt James #65, Carrell Speedway 1948. Pretty pronounced difference in appearance between the two. I believe the #9 was a very early "Tamale Wagon" and the finish is typical of a Morales car.

Starter Bill Vandewater seems to be giving the field one to go. I believe this is Milwaukee 1946. Mays on the pole Tony B. outside and I believe Horn behind Mays.

The 56 looks like the car Known as the russo-nickels of 1954 with Thomson driving, but not basement bessie.

    Jim.

I don't see the similarity. But Thomson did apparently drive it at The Speedway in '53. I robbed one of Rooties pics. of it from earlier in the thread. Page 27 of the 1953 Hoosier Hundred program identifies it as the Sabourin & DelRoy Special. Perhaps Frankie DelRoy built it.

Tony Weyant told me this isn't Chuck Weyant. Chuck definitely drove this car in 1955. Tony thinks it might be Edgar Elder from El Monte, CA, who also drove the car in 1955. I found the picture in a calendar that also ID'd the driver as Weyant, but the date they gave 7/22/55 didn't match to any at Ultimate Racing History for Williams Grove. It is still a great photo, whoever it is.

I love that shot Rootie. Chief Mech. Bignotti is rolling the right rear. Compare that to today.

Williams Grove 1949. Duane Carter in the City of Tacoma #33 inside of Mays in the Wolfe #15, Both KK2000's. Directly behind Carter is the Baby Bowes with I believe Tommy H.

Jimmy Bryan pit stop 1957. Looks 6-28- jb 57.JPG kinda like Clint Brawner in the straw hat.

Yep. Mr. Brawner had a fondness for straw. Here he is with Sachs in 1962. Are those sleeves some kind of fire gear? Note the relocated fueling port. Frank McGurk experimented with a similar system as early as '57.

Those sleeves might have been for keeping the alky off of his forearms while un plugging the fuel hose

Wally Meskowski goes under the hood after Jack Turner pits with motor problems, Indy 56. Notice that the injector stacks aren't hooked up to the injectors (?) 6-30- 56.JPG
