I'm Baaaaaack!!!Been in hover mode since March, sold my home in Calif.,bought another in Nevada! All I had was an Ipad, worked OK for reading but could not respond! My Comet is tucked away in it's trailer waiting for me to come rescue it!!That will not happen for a while as I need to have a shop-garage built!! ROY.

  9. Yes welcome back Roy, hope the move went good. The first race weekend was last weekend. Comet performed ok but the drive was a little off. The class I'm racing has gotten tougher as a couple of hitters slowed down to make our class. 5 other guys now that can a 0.050 light or better regularly. Saturday lost first round by getting treed by one of the best. Brutal light for me 0.134 . Sundays race I made the semi's and then had another brutal 0.135 light. Good news is that I ran a 8.004 in the 1/8 1.84 60ft @ 87 mph, new best ET. 8.0 is the cutoff for my class.

Roger;there will always be 'hitters' that move into what they consider 'SOFT' classes, they will get tired and move on!!!Just keep having a good time, keep improving yourself and the rest will happen!!It looks like this season is not going to happen for me,too much else going on!! ROY.

  11. That is to bad Roy. I have been to busy also and will miss the last 2 races as I'm going to a National convention for my union. So I will not competing for points this year. I'm trying to get into the 7.90s so I can move up. The competition is tough in that class and the car count is usually over 50 cars.

Anybody have any leads on a 1964 Comet wagon? I'm looking for a nice relative rust-free car. Prefer a V8 auto. Can anybody help?

  17. Does this car look like anything you remember from the 60s? I am going to look at it in a day or so and wanted some input. It does not look like a factory race car. No doubt someone cut up a Caliente to build a certain class of drag car. It has the mount for a center console, lights in the door panels, and steel fenders and bumper. If the floor and lower body is not rotted away it could be saved, but the rear wheel openings have been cut very high in the 1/4's. The seats look original to a '64 but they seemed to be Palimino and the door panels are black.
I guess the asking price will determine if it will return to the earth were it sits or be saved by someone who will restore it or part it out to save other cars.

  19. Asking a fair price, I don't know if it's worth the time and money for ME to do something with, if its not something more special than a cut up caliente

If it was close and you have the place and time to part it out there seems to be quite a bit to save. Hopefully some will save it from melting into the earth right were it is.
I just a little to far East to help it.

  22. I'm going to look at it, buy it tomorrow morning at 1030am, I will have more info then, I am probably just going to buy it and see if I can find some history on it, then sell it... I don't really need another car, but it doesn't need to rot away in a backyard either

  23. The guy text me and said the price of the car has now doubled because there is so much interest. I told him to pound sand. There is a right way to do things and his way. On principle alone I declined to go look at.

There is no room in this hobby for people like that. I agree with you, he can insert that car in his rectum.

I have never seen that type of hood scoop grafted to the A/FX dual scooped hood before, did he set the engine back slightly and need this? The headers look to be in the correct location. Also they made the word "Comet" smaller after relocating the rear end forward.
Joel Kanois once told me that they would cut up the cars between races to keep up with the competition. If they saw a modification on a competitors car that was effective they would go back to the shop and the next day return with their car changed to out do the other guy. Most A/FX cars became so butchered up that few exist with their original parts. Kind of like George Washington's axe.

My uncle passed away several years ago and he left me all his fun old car stuff. I was going through some boxes recently and found a bunch of his old racing days pictures and memorabilia. Anyway I googled his name to find some articles about the stuff he raced and found this thread.

I will take some pictures of the stuff he has and try to post it when I get some time.
