We are restoring an original 32 Vic built in the mid 1950's. All of the original parts, paint and interior (from the 50's custom build) are in excellent condition! This car is a time machine!! The only thing I am in need of are 32 knee action rear shocks. Any Hambers know where to get some ? Thank you, Shawn
http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198534 Try this guy. That's a very cool old Vicky. Al.
I don't think knee action is a correct term for the Ford shock. However I can't spell the name they are called. Houdlie (sp)
I also think you are using the wrong term. I think that is what GM called their shocks. Do you mean you are looking for a set of original '32 Ford shocks? Charlie Stephens
That's bad ass. If that were my pile of parts I wouldn't restore a thing. Clean everything, polish the paint, bolt it together and drive!
Oh no... thats exactly what we are doing. We are restoring the car right back to its original 50's custom condition. No new paint or interior work, just cleaning and polishing her up! The 39 box, frontend and rearend have been rebuilt. The Olds Rocket is rebuilt and ready to go. Lincoln brakes have been replaced but other than that the car will remain as it was in 1956!
Latest issue of The Rodder's Journal has the new repro Houdaille shocks in the new products section. Pick up the issue as there is also a feature on a 32 5-window that sounds exactly like what you are doing with your Vicky.
http://www.hotroddisorder.com/2011/05/houdaille-shocks-pretty-easy-to-use.html Lots of rebuilders or Houdille shocks. I am using a rebuilt set on my "35 Phaeton and see no need to change.
Knowing what the hell you are talking about is passe. For you old timers it's Houdaille lever action shocks, knee action was a GM term from the thirties that could mean something or nothing. Now to get back to my flat V6 little deuce 77 Camaro rat rod with its fuzzy dice, dizzy and gasaholickin carbonator.
The only new repro shocks I have heard "rave" reviews about were for Model A Fords and were manufactured by Stripe Machine Company, (920) 467-2895. Charlie Stephens
All finished up! What a hoot to drive! This 32 Vicky was originally customized by a gentleman in Wenatchee WA. in 1952. In or around 1959 he completed his custom build of the 32. This particular gentleman owned and worked on the car until he sold it in 1963. The new owner did not particularly care for the customization and his plan was to disassemble the Victoria and restore it to it's stock condition. The new owner whom I am told, and paperwork trail verifies, lived in Portland. He indeed disassembled the car but never really got around to doing anything else after that. The car sat in parts and pieces until his death. I was able to aquire the car and it has been reassembled with the original parts and pieces from the original custom build in the 1950's. Rebuilt the front end, Rebuilt 1940 Ford rear with 4:11 gears, rebuilt 39 Ford trans, Rebuilt F-1 steering box and wide whites thanks to F-Head here on the HAMB, Lincoln brakes all around, Chrome steering Column, 303 Olds with new Stromberg 97 tripower thanks to Uncle Max Musgrove in Utah, Chrome master CYL, Original Stewart Warner gauges and more. Thanks to Marshall and the motley crew for their help!
