I like that combo! It looks sharp and you know you're not likely to see it everywhere.

@jakespeed63 thats so funny. Never heard of the show but they had some great info on the build, especially the engine. I still need to add my door poppers. Interesting to see they solved that with an 8 volt battery. Mine will be converted to 12v so that wont be an issue.

  3. Lancer, Ed China is the real deal, with Mad Skills. Glad you enjoyed it, as much as I. Could have been so easy for them to screw it up, but they lean heavily towards purists, with a few exceptions.

I like how they thought the wheels were trash on the car and went back with wide whites. Perfect choice. They seem to lean toward the traditional build esthetics which works well with that car. The price of the chrome made me cringe though. Two bumpers and those grill pieces for two grand. UGH!!! I have 11 teeth, both bumpers and the bumper guards. Better start saving now. I know a few years back it was $125. each for the teeth. @jakespeed63

Little eBay shopping. I had one really nice tail light bezel, now I have two. 13173634_1122545547796494_2049027094985111709_n.jpg

  6. I love the "new" color combo. All over candy tangerine I think is too much, but splitting it up I think will look splendiferous.

@drdave Yes, can wait to get some paint on it. I have a ways to go before I can start spraying.

Update on our DeSoto wheel from @pearlcraft_steering_wheels
"Wheel has had a pearl base coat applied with a number of colour mixes to be applied next."

Current owner of Pearl Craft on the left and former owner on the right. Pat and Sam purchased the business from Wayne who owned the business for about 40 years and making PearlCraft what it is today.

@pearlcraft_steering_wheels is getting the ‪DeSoto‬ wheel done in amazing fashion. Wow, this wheel is beautiful. I'm glad there are still companies out there who are craftsmen in their field. So many car builders these days just pop open a catalog and get what they want without regard to quality. This process is not only technical but artistic as well as the color and pearl/marble are all hand laid in.

  13. That is one outstanding piece of artwork, what does the basic pearl wheel go for?

It's great that you lavish such attention to the wheel. It is, after all, the most in your face, mano en mano, interactive piece of the car!

Looks like the once popular, 1960's Ludwig Drums finish, "White Diamond Pearl"!
    (Seen here, yellowed with age.)

That wheel turned out beautiful! I would love to see someone incorporate the white marine drum wrap into an interior...just some subtle touches would be nice[IMG]

Kirk Jones did just that, to complement the wheel of the "May Cause Dangerous" 1960 Ford.
(Look closely at the door panel and dashboard.)

I finally found a car thats the color scheme the DeSoto will be when finished. The roof will be a bit more Kandy but this is darn close. s-l1600.jpg

Had to set the new Pearl Craft wheel in place, even though there is so much to be done. Started prepping more of the column part to get shot again. Has some weirdness with them. Little by little. Motor is dirty from sitting, time to get her cleaned up a bit.

So I made a deal with my 16 year old daughter, if she helped me with the DeSoto then she could drive the car. That was a week ago and we are moving along quickly. She sanded down both doors to metal, which are now ready for me to do the body work on. Sanded the underside of the trunk lid to prep for the color change. I'd sprayed it about 7 years ago. I sprayed the new hi build primer, guide coat and she's now learning to block sand. Since she's already driving with her permit by the time we're done she'll have her license so its a win win. This is going to be fun. More updates soon. 14102375_1201477129903335_854180041391931154_n.jpg 14051648_1199482566769458_7401446900187397189_n.jpg 14079498_1201859979865050_3319874040186274241_n.jpg 14141576_1199482613436120_2640676364561064594_n.jpg 14088699_1199482743436107_4274775336510847770_n.jpg 14102244_1200551486662566_2703342674773627178_n.jpg 14184481_1200474136670301_2944286208077629899_n.jpg 14079808_1199482593436122_7164147058889963842_n.jpg

Glad to see that she is using a respirator, she is big for 1 year old, what do you feed her? Love it when the kids are part of it. You are teaching her valuable skills and work ethic. Frank

haha, yes, my 16 year old. I fixed the typo. Breathing protection is important, eyes, ears etc. Got to take care of them. I live that by example. I like your avatar. My dad was in the armored calvary in Vietnam.
