looks like it may be an aftermarket fin marketed in the later 50's to fit possibly 49-50 chevy cars. many years ago when i purchased a 53 chevy mild custom, it had similar add on fins.

I bet that was a JC Whitney or Western Auto "add on" to simulate fins.

52 Chevrolets had something like that as an option that on the rear fenders. they have more curve to them than this drawing shows. I bet that is an aftermarket version.

1952 Chevrolet Acc-22.jpg the curve looks the same.

If you look at Boss Mustangs pictures of the Sins of Steel show, image 6468 is of a rr pickup and looks to have 2 of those screwed to the roof.

  16. I don't believe this a stock 1950 Pontiac trim piece. That red Pontiac has a bunch of add on chrome trim.

It was a dealer accessory, like all the other extra trim one could purchase from the dealer, like the car above. If one takes the time to look through pages and pages of images on the internet, it comes up a number of times. The photo above is from Cars of the Fabulous '50s by James Flammang, page 33, which is where I first found it.

The trim is Pontiac but the ball reflector is not. The photo above has the proper reflector.
