I have a 1954 Chevrolet 210. Recently I had the engine rebored and rebuilt, bigger cam, Fenton headers and dual Fenton intake. Problem comes in with the carburetors. I bought 2 rebuilt Rochester B carbs off of ebay and the linkage it came with is all wrong. My engine shop has been on the phone with everybody you can think of and they nor I can figure out how to get these 2 running correctly. The throttle linkage is in a different spot than the original. Some people block off one carb but I am just disappointed, any help would be appreciated.
Sorry, my name is Chris. These new Rochester carbs came with linkage but it was not for this engine. The shop tried to customize it but the throttle needs to be pulled in the opposite direction as the original
Who would add a dual intake and then block one off?!? We had a similar problem with that same set up. Chevy made a number of different linkage configurations over the years for 216/235/261s... none of which came with dual carbs. What you need is a bellcrank the pulls instead of pushes (or vice versa). You may also need to bend your own linkage. It's just simple lengths of steel rod. Patricks carries a linkage set up which may or may not work for you, but he is a great source of knowledge and a great place to start. This was mine, but you can't really see the linkage or bell crank down on the block.
We tried Patricks, but they couldn't figure it out either. Apparently there are 142 variations of the Rochester B carb, wish I knew that first.
Here is a pic of 2 model Bs using the standard Offy linkage. the linkage kit can be bought separately .I realize that your engine is a 235 and this one is a 250 but I have used 2X1 setups on both and the linkage setup is quite similar.
Thank you for the help. Found another roch b identical to my original. Hopefully it will be easier now that the arms are pulling in the correct position.
Unless you have a 235 racing cam, you want 216 carbs for a dual carb intake. Rochester Bs have vacuum operated accelerator pumps, instead of mechanical and are harder to tune as you have to find the ideal springs for your engine and use. Carter W1 have mechanical pumps and that's what I use for my 235 with 261 cam. Auto-choke carbs can be converted with a kit to manual choke, which also gives less headaches. would go with carters easy to setup and rebuild with no leaking. Dual carbs for 216 are great on 235 .
