I was pretty sure she still had it. Anyway - sorry for the lack of action today - my internet was out for almost the whole day.

This car reminded me a lot of my first decent car and second car overall. No it was not a 30 A 4 door. But it was a 1968 Torino GT that was a similar dark blue. One of my best friends dad had a used car lot and he was willing to finance me on the $450 purchase price (May 2 1974). Later that summer, it was one of the happiest days of my life when I bought it a set of Radial T/As with American dish mags that looked pretty much like these.

Wow your comment brought back kool memories of the first (sad to say only) set of Radial T/As that I bought for my van. I noticed a few cars at the SK500 was running them.

Let's put it this way, I don't hope to have that repeated any time soon or ever. The 28/29 A above with the green grill I loaded by transferring it to my phone first - which was definitely a time consuming thing to do, so I figured it was not going to be worth it to keep that up.

They were a really good set of tires - they lasted through all my crazy driving and abuse. They were much better than the Mickey Thompsons that were on my other car.

When I was in High School I was trying to save my money for some Mickey Thompson tires. I didn't make it... :(

The MT's came on my 3rd car - 70 Torino GT - 429 CJ, top loader 4spd, 9in rear end with 3.55 gears. They were decent, but after having the TA's you always want those - or at least I did. I don't even think they look dated now.

late 70s early 80s I was crazy about vans. I guess that I still am..

  11. Once upon a time, vans were the only "customs" you could find....at least in enough quantity to fill magazines. My dad got all the van mags back then and I devoured them. From there, I found the couple of "customs" issues of Street Rodder on the stand while I was standing there with dad getting the van mags. It was just a short time later that Classic and Custom showed up on the stand after I had gotten the Grease Machines book for Christmas.....I was a true blue kustom guy from then on.

.....so, yeah, like Mick, there's still a soft spot in my heart for custom vans.

I used to get to drive a lot of them when I worked at a Dodge dealership in 1975. Since there was one at the show, I will try to get an image of it done soon.

Dan you flashed me back to purchasing my 1st set of new tires! Not as exciting as TA's but bias ply 1 inch white walls for my 64 Buick LeSabre. Dad took me to see his buddy at the tire store and I got two brand spankin new front tires for a whopping $12.00 a month! Dad says don't screw up and not pay the man or you'll wish you had! Thanks Dan the memories are great! Joe

Well Joe, for 1964 I bet they were great! Especially since T/As didn't exist and I don't think even any of the white letter tires were around yet either.
Here is a shot of Cory, Travis and Travis with Cory's nail head powered T.

It wasn't 1964 Dan, it was probably around 1975,or 76 the car was a 64 though. Joe
