Hi does anybody know why you would chop the 2 middle pipes off of an inlet manifold. [IMG][IMG]
    It's from a 64 cadillac 429

  2. Its for a holley carb I think it is to equalize the pressure from one primary to the other.

Oh I don't know about the bottom of the intake.

They were killing off the heat riser.

  4. LOL I didn't catch the heat riser. I have always blocked mine anyway.

He added another exhaust outlet, and shaved off weight at the same time.

    Thanks for the replies
So I can use this just have to block the ports on the engine
But being as I'm in miserable England and not the sunny states I may well at some time need to have some heat risers
I'll keep my eyes open for another inlet

Sometimes you find a part like that which some unknown person modified for some reason only known to them. He evidently didn't want the heat getting to the manifold and went to a lot of work to accomplish it. Evidently, some performance modification that he felt was better than simply blocking off the ports. Maybe felt the fuel charge would be cooler this way.

LOL Don. That first sentence of your post fairly well describes most of the parts I find. :p Lippy

Actually, it was probably made that way. Many intakes are offered with no heat.

Oh it's was definitely cut up
You can still see the cutting wheel marks!

I'm going to machine the ports out a bit so I can fit an eldebrock 750 on top
Will at least make a good test piece.

We cut our Pontiac intakes just like that. One was to take weight off the front of the car, the others was to take heat off the carburetor. We also cut the water cross over off so it wouldn't radiate heat back to the carb. Recommended for drag racing only.

It snows where I am , but even if it didn't I still try and remove heat from manifolds. Down side, doesn't idle well when cold, fouls plugs if I don't keep revs up for first 5 min(probably from fuel puddling and not evaporating), upside it will run better once warm, hot air/fuel isn't what an engine needs. Probably a bad if you drive 24/7 in the really cold places.

Heat off carb. Let the gas run cooler for better fuel economy im guessing.

Quite common for the heat riser passage to crack or burn out on these Cadillac manifolds. I guess this is one way to fix it!
