Technical Flathead oil pan

    Hi guys.

    Bough 8CM merc Flathead but the guy who sold it to me said that he lost oil pan for this motor.

    Will EAC or 8BA pan work?

    Unless any one in here might have spare PAN/SUMP for merc and want to sell it.

    Yes, either pan will do, as the blocks don't care what letters are on the heads. It's the same block casting, just different crank, pistons, cam, heads, & manifold.

    It may depend on what chassis you are installing the engine in. The 8CM and truck pans are rear sump, while the 8BA, EAC and EAB are center sump.

    And to swap you need pickup tube to match pan...Merc and truck use a short one for the rear sump, Ford cars and post-'52 Merc need longer tube. Real question is what chassis is engine going into and where its obstacles like steering linkage are.

    JFYI, your pan is center sump '52-'53 Mercury EAC and Ford EAB. The Merc 8CM is a rear sump.

    London is in United kingdom ;-) i have EAB sump currently but thanks guys for helping me out
