thanks, I made to slide up into existing cross member. moved left/right - up/down and tack welded. plan to brace/weld better when have back apart to box frame rails.

finally a nice sunny warm day, painted the block/heads with a 3/8" brush pushing paint into all the nooks and crannies...... going to do a second coat and touch up when more parts and installed.

Is that one coat? It looks really good. How long did it take with the 3/8" brush?

yeah, that's one coat.... it goes on pretty nice, and I used a stiff brush. Took about an hour and only used about 1/2" of paint out of that can. next coat will be a softer brush that won't leave any brush strokes.

plan to do the automatic transmission also.... we'll see

found this rebuild fuel pump that has separate fittings so I can point input/output were ever I want. most SBC mechanical pump outlets will interfere with my front engine mount...

also got water pump bolted on this morning.

    thanks....

not much progress, but decided my 6 x 1 barrel intake/carbs still has 100's of hours of work. And might not be best setup to break in cam and initial shake down....
So..... decided to use this Weiand intake and a 570 cfm holley 4 barrel and might get on the road a lot sooner.

anyone have a guess what year this intake is?

We are running the same WCVSQ intake on a 283 w/500 Carter AFB and it works well.

I did some research when I got the intake, and found an advert for one in a 1965 Hot Rod magazine, so it goes back that far at least.

thanks for replays and nice words.....

so I noticed a few pages back I was trying to get running for Jalopy Showdown 2016, well that was last weekend (had a nice vendor spot and sold a few parts) now can buy more. Anyway; new goal is Jalopy Showdown 2017

I f'ing change my mind too damn much, I was going to get running with a standard 4 barrel and work on my 6x1 setup over the winter. No; that was just too simple I guess.... newest plan is to use with 2 x 2 barrels. One will be the primary and I'll remove idle and choke systems from other. With progressive linkage it'll come in like a mechanical 4 barrels secondary.

got intake and exhaust manifolds bolted down, next is oil pump, oil pan and relocated dipstick..... carb rebuild etc.....

    last engine pics for awhile....
so the exhaust manifold I'm using clears the steering box and shaft but prevents using the standard dipstick location. I plugged the hole and used this Ford Flathead tube & dipstick, it took a few tries get it to clear steering and exhaust, and not interfere with crank, oil pump and pick-up tube.

1st update in 6 months :( just a picture of fancy sheet that keeps dust off the engine.

Actually I'm planning to get back at it and surfing HAMB to help get me motivated :)

    nice to be back........
Rex my "garage dog" doesn't understand why I didn't use mandrel bent exhaust tubing. I told him it's the same reason I'm using straight slot screws instead of bolts on the flanges. (just took apart so I can finish welding tomorrow morning)

Anyone know were I can get some make your own exhaust gasket material? any thoughts on color? copper...black...

got all welded and cleaned up today... gonna make some dump caps and gaskets and most likely paint silver/aluminum later.

thanks, glad to be back at it! dually 8-lug steel would be alittle much :)

  24. Far and away the best part of this build is the fact that you've made so many pieces yourself. Don't see that much anymore. Kudos.

got the body off the frame this weekend and installed the starter and starter adaptor on the mockup eng/trans.....
considering building some rear engine mounts, currently only has the front 2 and rear trans. any thoughts?

I'm thinkin' you already know this and have a plan. But, I believe you'll need another Heim joint on your steering box input shafts and the closer to the joints the better. Only having one and out in the middle looks like disaster on it's way. Just caught my eye, I'm sure you're already on top of it.
Nice job on the bandsaw drive. What is the saw? More photos please.

thanks for Heim joint input, I wasn't planning to use another but will look into it more......
also i'll PM you some bandsaw pics :)

did some thinking at work today about "Pea Green", which is a good sign I'm motivated.
I've decide mount the 265 and Aluminum Poweglide i'll but using to ensure for/aft placement is perfect and the rear engine/forward tranny mount I need to build fits around exhaust, starter, steering etc.... gonna take longer but clearance it very tight.
