History Hamb appropriate dealership advertisment

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, May 12, 2016.

  1. Last weekend my bride hit a couple of yard sales and she brought home a 1957 phone book and it was in remarkable condition for a piece of Americana that 59 years ago was used almost daily.

At that time the business section of the phone book (yellow pages today) was imperative and a reasonably priced form of advertisement for any business.

Enough rambling,do you have any advertisement relating to the Automotive Dealerships in your hometown? HRP

  2. The Ford Dealer always put his information on the back of the Ford Times issues that he had sent out to local buyers. Guess that would be considered advertisement.:D 05122016.jpg

  3. Just didn't feel right only showing folks the back cover.:D 05122016_0001.jpg

  4. That's cool Don,I didn't even think about the Ford Times.

I love them and have a complete set of the 1954 issues of the Ford Times. HRP

How about the after the sale ads, the guy that thought up the trunk lid dealer plaques was a marketing genius. You were the salesman as long as you owned the car(or removed it). Here is one from my hometown, my older brother went to high school with their kids.
The dealership was next to my grade school, and when the first Mustangs were delivered we all looked through the cyclone fence and dreamed of owning one.

The trunk lid scripts left holes in the lid when removed so they usually stayed. A bit tougher to deal with than dealer license plate frames.
Even more permanent than the scripts are the pickup dock bumpers from the 60's-on that have the dealer name stamped into them with 2" letters. I seem to recall seeing mostly OK and TX dealers doing this.
I have a couple of local mid 50's phone books that are fun to look through.

Bought my first car here, went to high school with their kids.
Please forgive the 67 dated matchbook. I'm kinda fond of it.

You would have to be a serious hoarder to keep a phone book for that length of time. What else did they have at that yard sale?

  13. The lower White Motors key chain was advertising my Uncle Harolds used car lot.ga

His slogan was "Cleanest used car's in town".HRP

That key wallet is cool, I have one that came with my 66 Chevy pickup from the dealership in Independence MO. It would be cool to have one like that with the H.A.M.B. embossed on it.

Estate sales are a gold mine for that stuff.
I have a 1937 San Diego business directory. Its a bound book and cool as all getout.
When I first came on to it we went all over SD looking for places that were still there.

Actually it is a nickel plated tin cup, one you hang at the windmill so you can get a cold drink when you are out checking the stock tank. '30s vintage 1463087967623.jpg
I've also heard them called 'bean cups'

  17. Like this? Ryan offered this one several years ago but it doesn't have the hamb logo on it.

    It is marked for door,ignition,garage,home.HRP

Thanks Danny, I didn't realize he had those. I will have to see if they are still available. The hamb logo on it would be really cool.

  20. I suppose I could stamp H.A.M.B. on the wallet but it's been in the roll top desk ever since I bought it. HRP

  22. I have about 30 of them, Danny, mostly from 1959-1961. My Dad seemed to buy a new Ford every few yrs. in Dandridge, Tennessee. Managed to get a few dealer promos from them as well.
