Two Studebaker powered midgets.

Note the similar classic tails that have the headrests and the vertical of the trailing edge that preceded the later more common totally rounded shape. Also note the similar but different, rear push bars.

The number 6 on the tail is stylized to very subtly indicate an in-line 6, meaning the engine.

 

Can you tell me any history of the car and driver in this photo please? I think I might recognize both. Very important to me.

I came across your post and was interested as the photo you attached was of my grandfather's race car. His name was Frank Podriznik (not Emil as had been stated). Does your friend still own this car? Thanks for your post.

Adding three photos of Gil Golladay's midgets. Gil was a close family friend and my cousins crewed on his cars. On trailer at my uncle's home in N Sacramento behind my cousin's 283 powered Ford truck shows Gil's daughter with the midget. Color photo shows Gil's OHV head on his Fergy engine. Bottom photo shows the mayor of Sacramento in Gil's car at the old Lazy J Speedway. Gil on the right in white pants.

 

Latest on Edmunds CBM-7 midget restoration. No more dummy block and heads. Real engine gone through and in the car. "Real" hand painted lettering with silver leaf. Still need upholstery, plumbing, ..., but getting closer.

 

Got a chance to pick this old tq up, no history other than it used to run in so cal way back in the day. It was originally light blue and It runs a Crosley motor. Is it worth picking up? car is complete but will need total restoration.

 

How will we know if it is worth picking up if we don't know the price? EVERY old race car has value, be it man-cave wall art, restaurant prop, or just to part out. I would walk away from it if the asking price is five figures, but jump on it for several hundred dollars.

 

Its a trade deal so wont be a real lot invested it it.

 

Just picked up this midget in Ohio on a road trip from chicago to mooresville NC, met Frames, Dennis Frings, and he was gracious enough to show me around his place and take time out of his AMAZING projects and work to visit, bench race, and do a little horse trading. Then up to Ohio to look at this little guy. Sold everything I had before taking the trip because I knew it was coming home on the back of the truck. Long drive from chicago back to Texas. Just got confirmation from the Dryer family that this is a 46-47 pop dryer midget. Total time capsule. Plans are to tear it down and full resto to off the line specs. V860,dual carbs, old edelbrock intake. Wheel centers say " dryer racer". Snap in upholstery. Last owned and raced by Bob Fike also from Ohio. And info on history would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy the pics.

For sure. Want to go through the engine and make sure all is good. Don't know if it was put away running or put away dammit! Ha. But if al checks out it will be throwing rooster tails of dirt as soon as I can. Don't know how much of a rooster tail with the v860. Fun stuff though. Wish this car could talk!

 

Light car, small tire, should rooster tail just fine. Great looking car.

 

My Chevy 11 car here in New Zealand. "Ollie Prather Special". Ansen crossflow head.

 

Got in contact with former owners family. They sent over some pics of the car doing its thing. I assured them it's in good hands. Great pictures. Bummer the finned heads, magneto, hand pump, and a few other parts were stripped from the car when I got it .. Managed to track down the same style heads and an old Harmon Collins magneto for it. Such a pleasure talking to the owners sons. Lots of stories and their dad lived to race this little car. Be back on the track as soon as time allows.

Did they mention the location of any of those old photos. I grew up near Madison Ohio - wondering if one pic is the Geauga County Fairgrounds.

I think the black #4 hardtop is the Shanebrook Sedan.

 

I know. That they traveled a lot with the now defunct aara so it's very possible they raced there. The family was going to gather up a bunch of pics , programs,newsletters and send em to me. Very nice gesture. Looking like I may finally get some time tomorow to mess around with it. Can't wait. Been back since August 3rd and all I've done so far is sit in it and make car noises. Here's a pic of my Ol lady trying it on for size. She's so cool. Likes it more than me!!!

 

Adapted an old Harmon Collins mag and heads. Only broke 3 studs/bolts and 1 drill bit.... Felt like the dad from Christmas story the filth that was coming out of my mouth....carb rebuild up next Tearing it down for inspection a few new/old parts
Got some time to work on the car. Lots of interesting "stories" as I pulled it apart to start sorting through it. Looks to be original copper fuel tank that's been in a few dust ups
Very clever primitive " oil cooler"


New paint and numbers/lettering soon. Then push er around and see if we can fire it up.

Looking for some info from the midget experts on this site. I have what appears to be a 2 speed in-out box. It has an aluminum housing and was set up for a v8-60 in a rail frame car. Any help would be great.

 

A suggestion, take the top off and look inside, to me it looks like a in/out box that some one made, nice piece, should be some type of fork that moves a gear or female collar, connects and disconnects drive line. I believe there is alot of Midget parts that were made back in the day, not all are brand marked on casting, maybe some real old timer will recognize your part.

 

Thanks for your reply. I did have the top off and it has a fork and 2 gears and a cluster gear. Pull the stick back and it's direct drive, push stick forward and it is the lower gear. Middle is neutral. Like having a 2 speed trans but not for shifting, just 2 different gear ratios. The hook on the shifter for holding it in the lower gear.
