Tony Nancy at San Fernando, running Sparks & Bonney blown flathead, maybe '56?

Always easier when the caption is there...Moody in far lane in the Zeuschel & Fuller car, think Wayne is in the Doss and King car, this look like maybe '64.

This time Wayne wins one...Kenny Ellis stuck with the wheelbarrow design for a long time, finally went to twin blown Chryslers on gas...was a very good dragster body bender.

I don't have IDs on either car...but have to say that this was back when creativity was what you did in drag racing...Steel Pontiac vs Steel 'bird...

I remember this Ford, bright yellow, forgot that Dick Landy ran it before his MoPar days....there was another SS sponsored by Andy Andrews Autos, a brown Chevy run by John Wenderski...who would step from it into his Ivo-built top fuel car.

Kalitta vs the Train...I think that the Train took this race.

Art Malone racing Tommy Ivo at San Gabriel...Malone left Garlits to drive for himself, built his own car and his own engine, won Bakersfield over a 32-car field with this car.

No ID on car or place, anyone??

Very early Lions, Jack Ewell, near side, looks like Emory Cook in the far lane -- this was a Yeakel sponsored car that Kenny Arnold drove, then sold to Cook & Bedwell, later got a different roll bar, I posted a picture of it in an earlier post.

Dragway 42, West Salem, OH, note that the early funny cars had to run in the altered classes until they were accepted as a separate class...(some had to run as fuel dragsters)

still with the SBC, haven't seen that scoop before...

From Don Ewald's site; I think that this is Pete Robinson in his second Dragmaster car, which was a bit longer than his '61 NHRA nationals winning car.

    Falcon at Mels001R.jpg
One of the little guys who made up the bulk of the entrants, it may have had only 144 cu. in., but to this racer it was probably his world...at Phoenix

Probably another small engine, in G/Gas, but for the cubic inches, these guys put on a great show...and they put as much work into their cars as did the big-engine cars.

I have a guy asking for a photo of a starting line ''clock''. He said before the Christmas tree came to be that there was a clock of some kind to start the race? I'm 58 and I've never seen a pic of one. How about you guys.

I have never heard of a starting line clock, and I have been going to the drag races since '57. Before the Christmas tree, flag starters started the races...
