Hey guys, I've been trolling these forums for about a year now and never posted. There is alot of great builds, info, and suggestions shared here and I thought I would put forward my new project for your opinions. I picked up a 1931 sport coupe that someone started and I'm not really sure what to do with it. The mechanical side is easy I have some killer Navarro heads, a three duce intake and carbs, a good flathead bottom end, 9 inch from a 57 fairlane, 4 inch drop axle 40 brakes and spindles, posie springs and a 55 f1 steering box column and wheel. The question is about the body.... put a coupe top on it ? Make a coupester? Finish what he started and cap the back to even the back to the tops of the doors ? What would you guys do?
To let you know the windshield is already chopped 2 inches. This was it prior to me buying it when it was on a different frame.
Did it start life as a cabriolet or sport coupe that someone butchered the doors on. I think sport coupes make great looking hot rods, I found this picture on google. Everyone has a coupe, and coupesters take a lot of work to make look half decent.
It started as a cabriolet/sport coupe. Im looking for some top irons and I have a set of good coupe doors to use. Thanks for the picture could make it look like a killer 3 window.
Looks like something's off either with your radiator or your body mounting. She's bucktoothin! I like Sport Coupes too! I'd leave the hacked up and chopped SC doors on there because they already fit. I'd focus on getting the car running and driving while keeping feelers out for those top bows because without the full frame and with the chop, the stock bows aren't going to fit; you'll need something made or modified to fit the car so do it when you're just about done and already driving. The top doesn't make the car GO! Sounds like you've got a nice pile of go-parts already though.
Model A Sport Coupes are good-looking cars. Like 66Jimmy and the others, I'd suggest building it back as what it was to start with. That would make a killer Hot Rod. You already have lots of good stuff to work with, so keep us posted on your progress.
Wow, the green highboy AND the green full-fendered are both great! Don't butcher it up more and coupester-ize it. Never looks right.
I just placed the body on when I put into the garage so yes she is alittle off right now. I really think I'd like to weld a coupe top on and fix the door back to what it should look like. I picked it up for next to nothing and can spend a little in metal to make it not fugly. Not to offend any one with a coupester they are just really hard to make look right. That being said I'm off in the morning to dig thru a junk yard I know of for coupe top pieces and 40 rims wish me luck. I'll post what I find tomorrow. Thanks for all the imput.
I agree weld a coupe top back on here's a top I put back on a few years ago. 30 coupe and when it was found it was laying upside down in mud and guys just sawzalled it out instead of digging her out. If windshield is chopped you can take your time measure twice cut once and chop rest to fit and worry about doors last. This was my first complete top redo and with a little head scratching at the start it came pretty easy.. I can tell you to brace, brace, and bracelet hahaha. I've been following the thread for a while...and reading the ideas.. bear in mind that it sure will be a big job to convert a cabriolet/sport coupe to a "5 window" A coupe. ..and all that hard work and finding donor parts, you then end up with nothing special. I'm not saying a normal coupe is a boring car, I'm just balancing costs and labor to build a cool rod. Your car looks good to me, I'd do something with the windshield posts and header. Then an easier roof like a Carson type? Here are two of mine: The blue one was once a 5w missing the whole roof and door tops. The one next to it is a factory 2dr conv sedan, but has the same door style as yours, with an upright post at the front of door for the upper hinges.
Fix door tops in to matching the back body and drive it asap and a lot I found this on here and it's perfect. Coupsters Rock Belongs to @Austinrod, a division love that one too
I was going to say put a top back on it and "recoupe" your investment. But F&J's blue car just killed me, so I am without words.
