  1. Ron - Thanks for posting the family photos! Your mom had a '57 210 2 door sedan, of course that caught my eye. Nice tie!

Breaking from tradition, since I've posted this before, but Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

Lois Lane's Nash? I always liked those cars.

This is my mom with her Mercury that she'd won in a contest put on by the Ed Sullivan show. She passed in 1975, and we miss her dearly. moms merc polaroid.jpg scan0006.jpg moms merc.jpg

That's pretty cool. Do you still have the car?

I wish! This was a couple years before I was born. No idea whatever happened to it.

2016-03-28 15.27.59.jpg 1960___ My mom at the wheel, with my Aunt holding me, and myself posing as a toddler in Rogue River, Oregon. Mom passed last year. She always encouraged my hot rod ambitions with a ''better get going on it'' enthusiasm and loved to ride in my cars with smiles, especially if ice cream was in the plans along the route!!! I was lucky to have her as my mom!:)

  12. Thanks for posting the link to the back story.
Def not a clone of anybody else's work, now is it?!
Rides like this were always the ones that got my attention.

This rally picture of Opel Kadett Coupé is most probably from Sweden, not Finland. The car has a Swedish number plate and the text "Valvoline Cup" is in Swedish.

  20. Local to me was the Big Boy on Dixie Hwy, north of Telegraph. Go south 2 miles, and you were at the late, great, Joy Fair's racing garage.

And because I was a hick, I considered it high living when I'd take a gal to a place on Woodward Ave. called "Susie-Q Chick n Chips". My first meal there, I got a little ill - first time I'd ever heard of or tasted lobster. Might have been the butter, might have been the 3.2 beer. In any case, it was a cool place to be seen at.

Sorry no pics of Joy Fair's place.

    But thanks for yours!!!

  21. Ah, Suzie-Q. Got me looking online. Here's a pic of it on a postcard - before I started driving I think.

BTW, I went there on the advice of my cousin the racer- who knew all things worldly.

  22. I couldn't let this go. Found this ad for Joy Fair's Auto Craft. Great racer. Many a car went thru his garage straight out to Woodward Ave. or Detroit Dragway.

I never noticed that the license plate on 59 El Caminos folded down when the tailgate was open.

  29. Joy Fair was a legend. He raced until in his 70's.
I lived between Flat Rock Speedway and Detroit Dragway and could hear the races from my yard.
