  12. Gonmad, thanks for posting those. I was wondering about that Chevy, nice to see it done. I would like to see a side profile shot of it....

And that mint green Buick (?, judging by the hood) sure reminds me of this Olds!

Rick's Chevy should be at the SK500, It has a kool profile. You need to see it in person to appreciate all of the work.

Sorry Sancho, this are the only two pics I have. And the Olds/Buick look pretty close to the same!! Both very nice!

  16. Wow is someone actually doing something with this car or just letting it rot away as a "I will get to it someday" project? If this is a documented Ayala build it needs to be redone!! I would have a pretty big dilemma on my hands if I had it as to whether or not to chop the top. I think it needs it but it would take away from the originality of the car. Guess I will never have to worry about it.

I usually don't get too excited about Mercury's but I'd build that one if I had it...

Looks like it is in Arizona and its for sale. Copied this off of FB. "Was prompted to disseminate this. Mercury 1951 Custom Village Ayala brothers. Built on the good old days. Standing in Arizona and sold by a private collector who understood that he's not going to be 200 years old. $ 28 k (623) 696-2338"

I've always loved the way the body lines match up. I thought about using the quarters on my Merc but decided just using the bumper would be good enough.

  19. I just posted about this car on Rik's site and he said that when the car was originally put up for sale the owner said it was customized in southern Wisconsin. Seems like the Ayala name may have been added to try and make it more sellable.

At 28K, it looks like the Ayala name helped...!!! Too-ooo rich for me...

  21. This is what Rik said he found when the car was first listed for sale.

    1949 Mercury 50’s Custom Convertible.

“This is a real convertible, customized in the early 50’s.
The car was purchased by my father in the early 50’s after returning from Korea.
The car was customized in southern Wisconsin.
This car needs a total body and mechanical restoration.
It has rust holes in the floors and trunk outers.
Rockers are gone and fender corners have holes.
    Frame is rusty.

    It does not run.
I have not tried to get it running due to I do not want to damage some of the vintage speed parts on the engine.
    The motor may be frozen.
The last registration plate on the car is 1962.
It has only been driven and run in the mid 1970’s, where I got it running and drove it for a school project.
The car has been sitting for 53 years. The motor was rebuilt before it was put in storage and I really don’t know why my Dad put it away.

    VEHICLE DETAILS:
Flathead V-8, Fenton Aluminum Heads, Intake Manifold, and exhaust headers.
Buick 4 barrel carb, Cadi air cleaner. Copper exhaust from engine to mufflers.

3 speed OD manual trans. Power Hydraulic top and windows.

    BODY MODS:
Frenched headlamps, Hood nosed and decked, 1949 Cadi rear quarters.
    Modified body lines.
    Factory Ford Spot lights.
Top appears to be stock. and rest unknown.

Front grill halves, cadi fender skirts, trunk emblem, and front seat frame and springs included.

It's got a '49 dash and '49 parking lights/grille shell and bumper pan on it, looks like a '49 to me.

Even if it's not an Ayala car, it's a cool old custom '49 Mercury convertible that's still very much fixable. Even has a Monterey steering wheel.

Maybe 28K is a lot without documentation on the original builder but still a valuable and worthwhile project even from an unknown builder. I'd love to have that!
