Features 41-48 Ford and Merc Picture Thread!

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by nitrobrother, May 1, 2013.

  1. In the first post of this thread -- nearly three years ago -- I added the following:

"Edit: Let's expand our net to include Mercs and the 1941-1942 cousins.

Edit 2: No trucks/panels, etc.! There are other threads for those!"

So all of the related style brothers, sisters, cousins, and so on can make their appearances...but no '38 Chevies!

That's just how they ought to look, IMHO. What, if any, changes did you make from stock?

Paint as of today. My only real time to work on it is after I get off at 2am. Hand polishing it doesn't make any noise or wake up kids. Still needs some love but it's getting better.

Chassis engineering leaf spring kit and Ford 9 inch going in tomorrow. Should be on ground by end of day with 3.55 gears and a true-trac.

I kinda dig the nose up stance.... needs a bunch of carbs poking through the engine bay and more rubber out back.

I actually have a 3 inch Magnum drop axle ready to go in and am going to play around with the spring and shackles to get it sitting right. I'm keeping the 16s with caps and rings, too.

Thanks, it's been a process of quick detailer, clay bar, and a polish. Good way to learn every bump and ding.

D image.jpeg My 1948 Ford Tudor, I have had this car since early 70s. GMPP 383, highly modified turbo 350, Currie prepped Ford 9 inch with 3:25 Eaton posi, plus Ron Mangus leather interior. Halbrands and B. F. Goodrich gives it the rubber rake. The power equipment and Vintage Air makes this a great performance/driver.

You grabbed my attention once you said "I'm keeping the 16s with caps and rings"

A stock-looking, lowered '42-'48 Tudor with a SBF and a C4 is high on my list of favorite cars.

My goal has always been to make it look like an early 50s hot rod with the caps and rings on 16s. I have the Lincoln brakes for the front to keep the same wheels instead of swapping to discs and bought the F100 9 inch to keep bolt pattern the same on the rear.

Of course after I buy all that stuff, one of my old time hot rod buddies (I'm 33, he was old enough to be there) said everyone immediately ditched the 16s for 15s coz it lowered the car another inch.

I know what I like and I know how it's gonna look when it's done. SBF and a C4 would be nice coz they make everything to bolt it in. I lucked into a 90s Silverado with a new crate motor and OD trans (bad title and back fees worth more than the truck ) so that's what I am working with.
