This old abandoned garage still had fan belts on the wall and supplies on the shelf. Looks like someone just walked away years ago and never looked back.

 

Random cars and trucks at a "used car lot" in Vale Oregon. They were "used" all right, very used.

 

Vale Oregon has some cool wall murals. Here are just a few.

This morning we are in Twin Falls Idaho but my thoughts go back to yesterday and the cool little town of Burns Oregon. The Acme van drew the attention of these two elderly couple ( newlyweds of ten years) that came over to say hello to us ( it seems this is the norm when you get to ride around in this very cool 1961 metro van) !
If the name Burns sounds familiar to you you probably heard about it in the news as Burns was where the recent turmoil between Bundy family members along with other armed individuals occupied the Mulhuer national wildlife refuge protesting the BLM.
What was interesting about what this couple had to say was something the media never touched on ..... That that single incident tore their town apart because everyone took a side and it ruined relationships between friends, spouses, parents and children. It sent this town into a tailspin and still today they are all deeply effected.
The couple explained that throughout the town you will see orange ribbons hanging up and down the streets that you will see here in my photo. This is to remind them that it's time to try to put their differences aside and shift their focus to healing instead of hate.

Up at 4:30am; couldn't sleep last night. Might be the anticipation of what today has in store for us, might be the late night dinner, don't really know. So I used the extra time to Inspect the van. Checked the oil and put rainex on the windshield. All good.

Last night as we were pulling into Twin Falls Idaho I noticed a lookout overhanging the snake river canyon so we hung a quick turn to check it out. This is what we saw.



I kept thinking that this bridge looked familiar but I've never been in Twin Falls before. Then it came to me; I have seen video of BASE jumping from this bridge. As we were walking back to the van a group of guys were in the grass checking their gear getting ready for a night jump off the bridge. It was too dark for photos but we watched them jump. So cool. Brought me back to my skydiving days. No BASE jumps for me but I remember some of my buddies doing it. We are headed back this morning as we heard its popular to do sunrise jumps and we want video!

We have a group of jumpers packing their canopies. With any luck we will have videos shortly.

Hope you get a chance to check out Shoshone Falls State Park before heading out of Twin Falls area.......stopped there for 1st time in mid-90's and thought I'd hit the "Garden of Eden", absolutely beautiful basking in early evening setting sun........very cool place.......enjoy a safe trip to LSRU, that's a bucket list trip for me soon..........

 

Beautiful wall murals in Vale...We too have wall murals here in Calif., if a bit more 'subversive' in content...their artists are in questionable standing with law enforcement.

John got the amazing shot of the guys jumping off the bridge in Twin Falls!!

 

My sidekick Dawn (Impala Girl) came up with the idea to do a scavenger hunt on our trip to Austin. So here goes:

We are going to hide Acme swag in random places as we drive to Austin and post photos telling where to find it. If you find one of our goodie bags, all we ask is that you post a photo of you in front of the spot you found it.

First one of the trip is in Twin Falls Idaho at the visitors center at Perrine bridge. (This is the bridge that people BASE jump off of). Look for the monument commemorating mr. Perrine
