I have these seats for my '55 2 door sedan. What are they out of? The guy I got them from thought they were 64-65 Olds. The upholstery pattern matches 61-62 Corvair very closely. They fold straight forward. The tracks are 2 bolts at the back and fit into a receiver on the front, no bolts at the front.

Any ideas? What are they from?

Mainly looking for mounting ideas and upholstery options at this time.

    Thanks!

Does it matter? When I put the 64 Pontiac buckets in my 55, I did what I had to to make them fit the car, then had them reupholstered with the rest of the car.

  3. Probably not the idea you were looking for but if it was me I would check out some of the buckets used in late model light trucks that come with head rests and shoulder harnesses built into the buckets. Now would be the time to do it.

My guess is they're Corvair or maybe '61-'63 Olds F-85/Cutlass, Buick Special, Pontiac Tempest. Tracks might be different, but all the above vehicles used the same buckets.

btw those seats will look great in the car. they won't be quite as comfortable or safe as late model seats...but hey...this is the HAMB....

Corvair used that seat frame but the side panels would be painted instead of chrome. Impala, Grand Prix, and maybe Olds Starfire used a version of that seat but the chrome went all the way over the top, not just on the sides. 64-up LeMans, Cutlass, ect had a narrower seat.

But it very well could be 61-63 Cutlass, LeMans, Skylark, or Nova SS which also apparently used that seat frame around '63.

  7. I'm considering buckets for my Ford. Been checking out some Scat Procar seats that I've seen in other cars and they look good for the price. Some of the later Mustang seats I've seen go for $600 and up a pair.

Everyone tells me the early (pre 64) seats fold forward at an angle towards the center of the car. These fold straight forward so they have to be late 64 or 65 or later?

The trim on the outside edge of the seat is chrome and the inside edge (between the seats) is painted to match the upholstery. Again leading me to think they are Corvair.

Late model seats with headrests aren't going to happen. Look like shit to me. The don't belong in a 55 Chevy.

I have a set of Scat seats in my 62 Unibody short bed F100. They are way to narrow to look right in the 55 and Mustang are even more narrow. Had Mustangs in my 66 F100.

    Thanks for the info.

Definitely won't be later than '65 as GM buckets went to a different style in '66.

Did some searching on FleaBay. They're Corvair seats.

The pic above is from an ad for a '64 Corvair.

  10. Those early ''square'' seats look right in a tri 5 to me. Wide enough to fill out the car. Do you plan to upholster them yourself? You may find a factory pattern from one of the cars they fit.

I'm thinking '62-'63 Pont. Tempest. I know '61 Pont. seats tilted straight forward. Maybe all early GM did.

Corvairs had holes in the tracks front and rear.

62-3 nova folded forward all corvairs folded at a angle. both bolt down front and rear. so i am thinking 62-4 tempest. on all three the seat metal was the same chrome out side painted inside in 66 gm went to a different type seat
