Personally I'd like to see it full fendered, I think it would look great. Twenty or Thirty years ago while in Des Moines at a cruise night some guy brought in a freshly painted chopped four door (50?) Lincoln, the paint was still off gassing it was soooo fresh. I am not sure why I remember that car instead of the myriad of chopped Mercs I've seen, maybe it was the color, a pastel that has since went out of favor or just the fact that it was a four door that looked REALLY great. Maybe being a chopped four door did it for me.
Nothing wrong with a four door. Here is one of my personal fav's It belongs to a local hot rod and tattoo legend up here!
Back in the 80s,I knew 2 brothers who used to hit the same shows in Omaha as I did.One had a 32 roadster, the other a four door.Roadsters always get your attention, but that four door kept getting better every time I looked at her.Full fendered, chopped,it was like somebody had built it for me.I was impressed and at the time I had a Ferrari 308 and a Cord in the garage.
i think a 4 door is killer... This has been a debate ive had with guys for a long time! 32's, 33's and 34's..... 4 doors are like the long bed pick up trucks. They serve a purpose. I drive a 66 f100 long bed every single day... And every time someone sees it, i hear " what a nice old ride, to bad its not a short bed" ...... a 4 door is the same way, someone will see it, and say " nice deuce, to bad its a four door" I would love to have a 4 door... So 3 or 4 guys and enjoy cruising it around, Or hell even throw a tent and a bunch of gear in the back and go camp out, nothing but a tent and a hot rod...
Heres a 32 fordor i recently acquired and whacked the top on, cut it 4", i look at pics from Jalopykids and Yarils chop photos, pretty happy with the outcome then i popped some fenders on it, i think i like it better with the fenders!
Fourtunateson and Falcon George The car was built by one of the Torchmen, BZ. I have not talked with him for a couple of years but I would expect you could still find it bombing around Langley . Not many four doors can stop you dead in your tracks but this one sure does!
[QUOTE="b-bob, post:Yeah, this car is still in Langley. He doesn't drive it that often. Building a chopped shoebox now.[/QUOTE] Not to hi-jack, but heres his old truck.
Myself I really like the moredoors with a hard chop.....Cornhusker hot rods has one for sale (body only and very nice one) if anyone is looking give Gary a call.
I judge a chop by how the windows look, finished window height not the total cut is the measurement I look for. All of the above cars look good to me. Bob
I have never had a four door but I totally would. I say do what you want and do it as best as you can. People find something to hate no matter what you have. I think having a sharp, well-done four door to cart family/friends around in sounds amazing.
I like 32-34 Fordors. My 33 Fordor project will get a chop. I'm going to give it a 2-1/2" or 3" cut and slant the posts.
